Hubert M. Merkes

Hubert M. Merkes, 91, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, June 5, 2019.

He was born on February 26, 1928, in Rozellville, to parents Nicholas and Mary (Wagner) Merkes.

He proudly served his country in the US Marines.

Hubert was united in marriage on June 14, 1950, to Rosemary Schoenfuss.

He began his working years on the family farm and moved to Alaska to work on the railroad. Hubert was a maintenance welder at American Motors/ Chrysler until his retirement in 1988.

Prior to retirement, Hubert was able to purchase his dream of a hobby farm, maintaining it for many years.

He enjoyed hunting with his boys, camping with the family and playing cards. He was an avid reader and Hubert especially liked attending all of the grandchildren’s events.

Hubert is survived by his wife, Rosemary; six children, Debra Merkes, Perry (Roxie), Jeff (Diane), Tina (Gene) Conley, Dave (Roxie G.) and Randy (Kelly); eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Hubert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, sisters, brothers and sisters-in-law.

Visitation for family and friends was at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 148 W. Lehman St., Neosho on Tuesday, June 11 from 10 a.m. until time of Mass.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, June 11, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 148 W. Lehman St., Neosho at 12 noon with Fr. Justin Lopina presiding.
