Dennis M. Reible, 75, of Fond du Lac, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2020, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.
He was born on December 21, 1944, the son of Carl and Ruth (Hartwig) Reible. Shortly after, he was baptized into the Christian faith at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Knowles. In 1958, he was confirmed, also at St. Luke’s.
After graduating from Mayville High School, he enlisted to serve his country as a member of the United States Navy. He was a crewman on the U.S.S. Niagara Falls, and did one tour of duty in Vietnam. He met his wife, Nancy, while he was stationed in Long Beach, CA. Upon his return, he began his civilian career as a mechanic at Mayville Implement, R & L Repair, and Michels Pipeline. He finished his working career at R.E. Phelon in Lomira.
Dennis loved playing for his Uncle Milton’s baseball team for many years, until an injury forced him to the sidelines. He also served his local community as a volunteer at the Knowles Fire Department. He loved his church, serving many years as a Sunday school teacher, and many terms on the church council. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus for his family and friends, especially the children, and was very proud of his real beard. He was a member of The American Legion, Lomira Post #347 for 53 years, spending six of those years as the legion commander.
Dennis is survived by his sons, Joel (Diane Wendel) Reible of Fond du Lac, Toby (Michelle Kern) Reible of McFarland; grandchildren, Adam Buzzel, Amber Schuster, Kade Forsberg, Katrina Munro, Tyler Reible, Kim Reible, Gage Reible, Miyah Reible, and Carly Reible; siblings, Carl (Mary) Reible Jr, Joyce (Don) Schwartz, and Bonnie (Andy) Schraufnagel; nieces, nephews, and many other friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; and his parents, Carl and Ruth Reible.
The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac for their patience and professionalism in caring for Dennis during this most difficult time.
Visitation for Dennis will be held on Thursday, Dec. 10, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Knowles from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Matt Kuske officiating. Burial will take place at St. Luke’s Cemetery, Knowles, with graveside military honors.
