Geraldine Wondra
Geraldine “Geri” (nee Babler) Wondra, age 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Woodlands in Fond du Lac, surrounded by many family members.
Geraldine was born on April 20, 1927, in Ashford to the late John and Elizabeth (nee Knoeck) Babler. Geri graduated from Campbellsport High School, and she later earned an Executive Secretarial Degree from the Milwaukee Business Institute. She was united in marriage to Herman John Wondra on November 2, 1946, at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. She retired in 1998 after 26 years of service from the U.S. Postal Service in Campbellsport.
Geri was a member of St. Matthew Church in Campbellsport, along with being a member of the Christian Women Society and serving as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees; and she, along with her husband, Herman, were members of the West Bend Dance Club featuring Ballroom dancing, and also the We Love to Dance Club.
Geri was a former member of Toastmasters of Fond du Lac and member of the Campbellsport Women’s Club. Geri and Herman supported and enjoyed the arts. They were also members of the Windover Center for the Arts in Fond du Lac along with the Fond du Lac Symphonic Orchestra, and the Buttermilk Festival.
Family and friends’ celebrations were a major part of their lives, especially their annual 4th of July parties. She and Herman enjoyed traveling, dancing, and gardening together.
Geri moved to St. Clare Terrace in Fond du Lac in 2018, and to the Woodlands Senior Park in 2022.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman of 70 years in 2016; her daughter, Mary Beth Seffern in 2019; her parents; and siblibgs, Dolores Fleischman, Celeste Schmidt, and Jack Babler
Those left to cherish Geri’s memory include her children, Carolyn (Jim) Mair of Sublimity, Oregon, Kathy Pauly (partner Gary Nuernberg) of Fond du Lac, Judy Gilboy (Mike) of Eagle River, Alaska, and son-in-law, Doug Seffern of Van Dyne; grandchildren, Jennifer Mair (Benji Wiezel), Jessica (Scott) Heuberger, Jacquelyn Mair, Michael (Stacy) Seffen, Kristin Russo (Frank), Mark Seffern, David (Meghan) Pauly, Nathan (Jenna) Pauly, Becky (Tony) Gribben, Jeff (Heidi) Gilboy, Mindy (Josh) Tiner, Danny (Casey) Gilboy, Annah (Jared) Wenninger, Olivia (David) Helkenn, Caleb (Brianna) Gilboy, and Sophia Gilboy; 37 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Flip Wondra, Rita Babler, MaryAnn Wondra, and Yvonne Kuen; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
VISITATION: Geri’s family greeted relatives and friends on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 406 East Main Street, Campbellsport. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: A Mass of Christian Burial followed visitation at 1 p.m. with Reverend Neil Zinthefer officiating the Mass. Burial followed Mass at St. Matthew’s Cemetery located in Campbellsport.
