Margarete Zechner

Margarete Zechner, 83, of Campbellsport, passed away on May 13, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Margarete was born on April 15, 1941, in Stralsund, Germany, the daughter of the late Apollonia (nee Jaeger) Zechner and stepdaughter of the late Joseph Zechner. Margarete, her sister, Apollonia, and Joseph, immigrated to the U.S. and settled in Milwaukee to be near family. On January 4, 1964, she was united in marriage to Walter Zechner. Margarete was well known in the Campbellsport community. People will remember her by her smiling face behind the checkout counter at Piggly Wiggly. Margarete was an avid knitter and used her gift to make and donate hats for cancer patients. She loved watching birds out the patio and gardening. Many people enjoyed her traditional German dishes.

Those Margarete leaves behind to cherish her memory include three daughters, Heidi (Kevin) Riley, Erika (Steve) Schaub, and Anita (late, Douglas) Hoppe; two grandchildren, Kyle and Connor Hoppe; a sister, Erika (Irvin) Wilke; nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Margarete was preceded in death by her husband, Walter.

In honor of Margarete’s wishes, private services will be held. Burial will take place at St. Matthew’s Catholic Cemetery in Campbellsport.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to SSM Hospice and the Campbellsport First Responders.

The Twohig Funeral and Cremation Service has been entrusted with Margarete’s arrangements.
