LaVern Lucy Priest
LaVern Lucy (nee Liegl) Priest, entered eternal life on Monday August 5, 2024. She was born November 4, 1931, to Philip and Adelia (nee Oechsner) Liegl and was the 8th of 12 children.
On August 20, 1949, she married Merlin C. Priest in LeRoy. Together they farmed in the town of Lomira. LaVern grew up in the town of LeRoy. Her job as a child was to bake homemade bread each day for the family. She worked at the local diner with her sister and became a wonderful cook and baker.
She will be remembered as a true homemaker and made the best homemade schaum torte. She had beautiful huge vegetable and fruit gardens and amazing flower gardens. She was always available to help her children and grandchildren. She was a beautiful seamstress and helped her husband with chores on the family farm and building Sterling Homes.
She was a proud member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aide organization for many years.
She is survived by her children, Merlin Jr. (Patricia) Priest, Joy (Mike) Thorn, Bruce (Julie) Priest, Todd (Colleen) Priest; nine grandchildren, Shelley Priest, Scott (Stephanie) Priest, Bobbie Jo Thorn, Nicholas (Stacey) Thorn, Daniel (Melissa) Priest, Abby (Dan) Mose, Mitchell (Kelsi) Priest, Payton Priest, and Noah Priest; nine great-grandchildren, Alexis Valle, Dakotah Jurgensmier, Seth Priest, Olivia and Evelyn Thorn, Jackson Priest, Macie Mose, Henry and Nellie Priest; a great-great grandchild, Samuel Stakes; two sisters-in-law, Erna Liegl and Doraine Priest; a brother-in-law, Jim (Jan) Priest; a special niece, Sharon Chimeleski; and many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years, Merlin, on August 23, 2004; her brothers and sisters, Melvin Liegl, Dorothy (Walter) Stortz, Lil (Lloyd) Metke, Albert (Dolores) Liegl, Alex Liegl, Philip (Mary Jane) Liegl, Rosie (Ralph) Braun, Phyllis (Ralph) Bodden, Rita (Rodney) Giese, Bernice (Robert) Steger, and Lucille Theusch; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin (Ardell) Priest, Dolores (Herman) Moldenhauer and Robert Priest.
VISITATION: LaVern’s family will greet relatives and friends at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 550 Water Street, in Lomira, on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
SERVICE: A service for LaVern will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lomira. Rev. Rick Zahn will officiate and burial of her cremated remains will follow the service in the church cemetery.
Memorials will be used towards St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lomira.
