John J. Coulter


John J. Coulter, 88, of Kewaskum, passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Kettle Moraine Gardens in Kewaskum. He was born on February 5, 1933, to the late George and Helen (nee Funk) Coulter in the Town of Theresa, WI. On January 31, 1959, he was united in marriage to Patricia Hron at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum.John served in the United States National Guard and was proud of his military service. He worked at Regal Ware for over 40 years. After retirement, he worked as a gas attendant at Herriges Oil. John was a very active member of Peace United Church of Christ and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed reading the Milwaukee Journal and doing crossword puzzles. John liked deer hunting, football, and baseball, and he loved his dogs.John is survived by his three daughters, Jacky (Mark) Herriges of Kewaskum, Jenny Marchewka of Germantown, and Kelley (Tim) Peterson of Boltonville; 11 grandchildren, Dr. Margaret (Andrew) Lijewski, Alexander (Jessica) Herriges, Michael (Erin) Herriges, and Joseph (Fiancé Ana) Herriges, Ben (Kelly), Danny, and Sam Marchewka, Jacob (Valerie) Peterson, Joshua (Paige) Peterson, and Jo-Ana Peterson, and Jonathan Swords; nine great-grandchildren, Bram, Audra, and Sloane Herriges, Hudson and Maren Lijewski and Gwen, Fiona, and August Peterson, Isla Peterson, and one on the way; two sisters, Betty Quandt and Paulette Coulter; five brothers-in-law, Rich Kallmann, Jim Ruecker, John, Keith, and Brian Hron; three sisters-in-law, Julianne (Dennis) Luedtke, Deborah (Tom) Begun, and Penelope (Jim) Martz; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patty; a daughter, Tracy Hesch; three brothers; four sisters; and other relatives.A Memorial Service for John will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, September 13, 2021, at Peace United Church of Christ, 343 First St., Kewaskum. Phyllis A. Gassner Nigh


Phyllis A. Gassner Nigh, 81, of Campbellsport passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021, surrounded by her beloved family at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. She was born on January 28, 1940, in Brandon, the daughter of Louis and Gertrude (nee Pollock) Redman. On April 12, 1958, Phyllis married Gordon A. Gassner at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in LeRoy. Gordon preceded her in death on September 24, 1998. On August 17, 2013, Phyllis married Robert Nigh at St. Martin’s Church in Ashford.Phyllis worked at Regalware, Kondex and St. Joseph Convent but her favorite job was operating Parkway Restaurant with Gordon from 1994 to 1998. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church where she was active as a lector and communion minister. Phyllis was known for her great cooking skills especially her hot dish.Those left behind to cherish her memory include her husband, Bob; children, Sheryl (Neal) Casper, Greg (Kim) Gassner, Allen (Barb) Gassner, Teri (Herb) Galligan and Dean (Shelly) Gassner; stepchil dren, Robin Slottke and Sherri (Paul) Hippol; grandchildren, Tim (Tammy) Casper, Tom (Steffany) Casper, Travis (Rebecca) Casper. Main St., Campbellsport, and will be held on Thursday, September 9, starting at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at the Church. Rev. Marjorie Ann Doherty


Marjorie Ann “Marge” Doherty (Leifer), age 90 years, of Kewaskum was called home to be with the Lord on September 18, 2020, at Ivy Manor in West Bend surrounded by her family.Marge was born on December 31, 1929, in Plymouth to Walter and Mable Leifer (Haut). She was united in marriage to Patrick Doherty on October 16, 1948, at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Batavia. Patrick passed away in 2015.Marge graduated from Random Lake High School in 1948. She worked at RegalWare and was a member of the 25 year club. She retired after 30 years of employment and then went on to work in the bakery department at Pick N Save in West Bend for several years.She was a longtime member of the Robert G. Romaine American Legion Auxiliary Post #384 in Kewaskum.She enjoyed knitting, playing Sheepshead, traveling, and going out for Friday night fish fry at Hon-EKor and also enjoyed time at the American Legion. She took pride in keeping an immaculate home and did her own yard work until she was 85. Dorthy Mae Weber


Dorthy Mae (Rudolph) Weber passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021. Dorthy was born in West Bend on March 2, 1934, the daughter of Arline (Benike) and Gerhard Rudolph. She attended and graduated from St. Stephen Lutheran School, Horicon High School class of 1951, Dodge County Teachers College and UW-Oshkosh. Dorthy married the love of her life, John Weber, on June 19, 1954, and spent many happy years together raising their son Mike. She enthusiastically devoted her life to teaching little ones, and taught in Dodge County Rural schools and then in Horicon Public Schools until her retirement in 1996. Dorthy loved her students, and enjoyed cooking, baking, canning and freezing vegetables from husband John’s garden. She liked to read, attend Bible classes, volunteer, travel, and attend theater productions. Training her Golden Retriever dogs was her passion. Dorthy is survived by her son, Michael (Barbara) Weber; granddaughter, Rebecca (Maciej) Weber-Ciupa; grandson, Ryan (Rakela) Weber; brother, Wayne “Hooks” (Shirley) Werner; sister-in-law, Debra Werner (Wes) Lindert; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; mother and step-father, Arline and Ray Werner; beloved grandparents, Hank and Jennie Benike; brothers, David and Ray Werner; sister in-laws, Nancy and May Werner; in-laws, Delia and William Weber, Elizabeth (Richard) Schwarze, Margaret (Willard) Bartelt; brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Delores Weber; nieces, Wynn Irish, Wendy Werner Hubbard and Gail Weber. A private family funeral service will take place at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon with the Rev. Daniel Seehafer presiding. The interment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Horicon. Curtis R. Mueller


Curtis R. Mueller, 76, of Hustisford passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, at his home. A funeral service for Curtis will be held on Thursday, September 9, at 3 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Hustisford with Rev. Jonathan Loescher officiating. Visitation will be held from 12 noon until the time of the service at 3 p.m. at the church. Inurnment will take place at Hustisford Cemetery at a later date. Curtis was born the son of Raymond and Ruth (Schmidt) Mueller on November 2, 1944. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Unertl on June 5, 1965 at St. Mary’s in Woodland. Curtis had been in the construction industry his whole life. He worked for several contractors and was a proud and active member and retiree of Operating Engineers Union Local 139. He was a founding member of RAT (Restored Antique Tractor) Club and was also a member of the Dodge County Antique Power Club. He loved his Massey Harris tractors but was not color blind to other makes. He owned several of everything except for the green ones. Curtis enjoyed plowing, using many of his vintage tractors. He enjoyed being in parades or any arena to showcase them. He loved including his family in the festivities who shared the same passion. Family was everything to Curtis and loved the time spent with them at the farm. He enjoyed gathering with his buddies for coffee at Joanie’s in the morning or a happy hour at the Bowling Alley or Lone Pine. Curtis also loved traveling with his wife and staying in Texas at the South Padre Islands during the winter or driving to Canada to look at a tractor or two. He loved to travel to New York to visit relatives. Curtis was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Hustisford and lifelong member of the community. He will be deeply missed. Curtis is survived by his wife of 57 years- Carolyn of Hustisford. His children- Kirk (Audra) Mueller of Hustisford and Stacey (Rob Pasbrig) Snyder of Theresa. His grandchildren- Mike (Madilyn) Mueller, Chalyn Mueller, Jordyn (Dan) Mueller, Taylor Snyder, and Adam Snyder. His great grandchildren- Karter, Ethyn, Savannah, Owyn, Kane, and Kody. His siblings- Mary Lee (Allen) Petersen of Ashippun and Dean (Roxy) Mueller of Hustisford. His sisters and brothers in law-Bob (Susie) Unertl, Jerri Frank, Joan (Gary) Boser, Dan (Marion) Unertl, Steve (Donna) Unertl, Stan (Monica) Unertl, Ginny (Ralph) McMullen, Cliff (Debbie) Unertl, and Scott (Julie) Unertl. Florence M. Plageman


Florence M. Plageman passed away peacefully on September 2, 2021, at Living Tree Estates Assisted Living in Greenville at the age of 97. Florence was born on January 13, 1924, in the Town of Ashford to Ervin and Margaret (Heisler) Bonlender. She married Donald H. Plageman on July 14, 1971, and spent many happy years with Don until he passed away in 2007. Florence went to school and was certified as a beautician and operated her own shop in Theresa for many years. She often spoke of how much she loved the relationship she built with her many friends and clients. After she sold the salon, she worked as a nurses aid at Hope Nursing Home and Cedar Lake Nursing Home. She also talked about how much she cared for the residents and co-workers. After moving to Horicon,I she worked as a beautician and CNA at Clearview Nursing Home in Juneau until she retired in 1986. Florence and Don enjoyed traveling with the John Deere Retired Spitfires to Germany, Ireland, Hawaii, Canada, Alaska and throughout the USA. She loved taking bus trips and made many friends traveled to area casinos and also loved playing sheepshead. She was a member of the Mayville Senior Center and St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville. Florence is survived by one brother, Joseph (Louise) Bonlender; one brother-in-law, Karl Ryan; one sister-in-law, Doris Bonlender; and many special nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her birth daughter, Kay (Jim) Zimanek and her family. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Margaret (Andy) Bonlender, Fern Ryan; brothers, Leo Bonlender, Ervin (Betty) Bonlender, Harold (Eileen) Bonlender, Robert Bonlender; a niece and several nephews. Special thanks to the care team members of Living Tree Estates and Moments Hospice. Memorials can be given to Moments Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial for Florence was held at St Mary Catholic Church in Mayville on Tuesday, Sept. 7, with visitation at 11 a.m. and Mass at noon with Father Tom Biersack as celebrant. Florence was laid to rest immediately following the service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Horicon. Koepsell Funeral Services in Mayville handled the arrangements.

Edward Wolter, 84, of Mayville passed away on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021, at Prairie Ridge Assisted Living in Mayville. Ed was born the son of Reinhardt Sr. and Julia Ann (Wasco) Wolter on March 20, 1937. He was a graduate of Mayville High School. Ed was united in marriage to Rosa L. Gray on April 28, 1959, at Zion Lutheran Church in Horicon. Ed had worked for various local manufacturing companies, retiring from Metalcraft of Mayville. In his spare time, he loved the outdoors while fishing, hunting, shooting trap, or spending time on the Horicon Marsh. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing hockey and softball. Family was most important to Ed and he cherished the time spend with them. Ed will be deeply missed by his sons, Terry (Jody Schroeder) Wolter and Todd (Debra) Wolter of Mayville; his grandchildren, Jason (Melissa), Jessie (Sara), Josey (Sarah) Schroeder, Jeremy Wolter, and Courtney Wolter; his great-grandchildren, Morgan and Molly; his sister, Beverly Geschke of Fond du Lac; his brother, Stanley (Sharon) Wolter of Mayville; sister-in-law, Nancy Graf of Theresa. He is further survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosa; his sisters, Delores Mae Krueger and Elizabeth Gierke; brother, Reinhardt Wolter, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Edward Graf. A visitation will be held on Monday, Sept. 13, from11 a.m. until the time of the service at noon at the Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville. A funeral service for Ed will take place on Monday, Sept. 13, at 12 p.m. at the Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville with the Rev. Rich Collier officiating. Walter “Wally” Ewert

Walter “Wally” Ewert


 Walter “Wally” Ewert, 78, of Kewaskum passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee with his wife and her sister by his side.    He was born on February 5, 1943. Wally was an eagle scout in his younger years. When Wally was 16, he started to work with his dad with the trucking company as a bookkeeper. He graduated from Kewaskum High School.   Wally honorably served in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1968 as an airman first class and was a Vietnam Veteran. Later he joined his dad with his own trucking company. On holidays, he helped his mom at the Fireside Restaurant by Allenton.   On September 2, 1988, he was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Wondra.   Wally was a member for over 50 years of the American Legion Post 384 in Kewaskum.   He was an avid hunter, loved to fish on Lake Michigan, and enjoyed summers up at the cabin. Wally especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends and will be missed.   Those Wally leaves behind to cherish his memories include his loving wife of 32 years, 8 days short of 33 years, Ruthie Ewert; two sisters, Jeanne (Bill) Ruth and Rosalie (Denny) Tattum; two brothers-in-law, Richard Wondra and Dennis “Butch” (Char) Wondra; two sisters-in-law, Luci (Rick) Fauska and Leslie Ewert; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and lots of friends.    He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Kathryn Schaefer; a sister, Donna and Squeaky Schwichenberg; a brother, Robert Ewert; father and mother-in-law, Bernard M. and Marie M. Wondra; brother-in-law, Dave F. Dorothy Blumer


Dorothy R. “Dot” Blumer, 90, of Kewaskum, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2021, at Cedar Community in West Bend.  Dorothy was born on August 17, 1931, in Milwaukee, the daughter of the late Anthony and Elizabeth (nee Whitkowski) Ronkowski. On July 28, 1951, she was united in marriage to Merlin “John” Fellenz in Milwaukee. On December 30, 1975, she was united in marriage to Paul Blumer at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum.    Dorothy was a member of St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum, where she served on the St. Lucas Ladies Aid, the Altar Guild, Funeral Committee, and the Evangelism Committee. She was also a Red Cross Volunteer and she also volunteered in the gift shop at St. Joseph’s Hospital.   Those Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memory include two daughters, Laurie (Patrick) Clapham and Lisa Fellenz (Scott Taylor); a stepson, Rev. Steven (Bonnie) Blumer; a stepson-in-law, Randy Kemp; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; other relatives and friends.    In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Blumer; a daughter, Kathleen Becker; and a stepdaughter, Sherry Kemp.  Dorothy’s family greeted relatives and friends at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1417 Parkview Drive, in Kewaskum on Monday, August 23, 2021, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.   A funeral service for Dorothy was held on Monday, August 23, at 4 p.m. at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev.  David L. “Donald Duck” Strassman, 73, of Brownsville passed away on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021 at his home.   David was born the son of Alvin and Cyrena (Wetzel) Strassman on May 31, 1948, in Fond du Lac.   He was married to Grace E. Gerth on August 25, 1973, at St. Luke’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Knowles.   David was a veteran of the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was a member of the Lomira American Legion Post #347. David was a member of St. Luke’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Knowles. He was a member of the Knowles Fire Department and a member of The Rat Club. Donald Duck was a longtime truck driver.   David is survived by his wife, Grace; his children, Brian (Anne) Steger of St. Lawrence and Paul (Julie) Strassman of Brownsville; his brothers, Art Strassman of Texas and Neil (Claudia) Strassman of St. Killian; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.   He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Allan, Roger, and Gordon; brother-in-law, David Gerth; sister-in-law, Carol Prost; two nephews, Randy and Allan Strassman.   A memorial gathering will be held at St. Luke’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Knowles on Friday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 1 p.m. Rev. Matthew Kuske will officiate.
