About The Forest The Kettle Moraine State Forest – Northern Unit owes its unique landscape to glaciers of the Wisconsin Stage of the last Ice Age, which ended approximately 10,000 years ago. Geological History Some 20,000 years ago, two lobes of a great ice sheet met along a line extending northeast from Richmond in Walworth County through the Oconomowoc Lake country to Kewaunee County.
