I made a series of recent trips to the Lomira library to see what I could find out about early Lomira area schools. The library has a special history room which houses a collection of extensive pioneer family genealogies, church histories, community history and cemetery records for Theresa, Lomira, Williamstown and Leroy townships and more.

Rob Bowe Long before Wisconsin became known as the Dairy State, it was known as the Wheat State. In fact, wheat was Wisconsin's first major agricultural crop.Pioneer farmers like Ludwig Ziedler and John Schwarze in the Town of Lomira, plus Friedrich Christian, Heinrich and Michael Budahn in the Town of Theresa, all started out planting small plots of mostly garden vegetables including Indian corn (maize), rye, Irish potatoes, carrots, radishes, turnips and beans to survive, as well as marsh hay, for the livestock, in the early years.

MITCHELL BRADLEY KELLER As reported in a previous edition, Geronimo Energy, the Minnesota-based energy-development subsidiary of National Grid – a United Kingdom utility company – has originated a roughly 900-acre solar farm project in the Town of Lomira.The massive plan would have a direct effect on three municipalities: the Town of Lomira, the Village of Lomira and the Village of Brownsville.

Lomira Board Of Education Approves District Reopening Plan


KAREN ROUSE Lomira public schools will reopen to students returning to face-to-face learning, or if they choose, virtual learning this fall. The first day of school is set for Tuesday, Sept. 1.On Wednesday, Aug. 12, the School District of Lomira Board of Education voted 8-1 approving a comprehensive reopening plan. Treasurer Thomas Jaster opposed the plan, saying he knows that the district must have in-person instruction; however, he could not personally accept any plan that was not a virtual start to the school year.
