Michael “Mike” James Simon passed away at his home on Sunday, June 2, 2024. He was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend on April 22, 1974, to Lester and Shirley (nee Sauer) Simon. He graduated from WSVH in Janesville in 1995. Mike might have been visually impaired and mentally challenged, but had a very active life. He was one of the first students to attend the Early Childhood Class at Campbellsport Elementary School. He attended the Wisconsin School for the Visually Handicapped (WSVH) in Janesville from 1980-1995. While at school, he was a member of the 4-H Clubs in Janesville and Campbellsport. He also enjoyed the Summer Enrichment Programs activities during the summer in Campbellsport. Under the instruction of Sr. Ruth Ann of Fond du Lac, he received his First Communion and Confirmation at St. Matthew’s Church, where he was a member and attended Mass regularly. He attended the ARC of Fond du Lac for many years until he started working at Brooks Ind. full-time. He worked at Brooks Ind. since 1989 until the present time. Mike had the best of both worlds. He was in the activity room and got to work out on the work floor whenever there was a job for him to do. During the summer, Mike went horseback riding at Reins Therapeutic Horseback Riding Program in Sheboygan County from 1985 to the present. His favorite part was when he got to “Trot.” He also attended Badger Camp for a few years, but his favorite place to go in the summer was the WI Lions Camp at Rosholt, first as a kid camper starting in 1980 and then he got to go back to the Adult Camp in 1998 with a sighted guide (mom) until the present. But Mike’s favorite all year-round activities were with his friends at Champions. He did bowling, bocce ball, baseball, putt putt golf, track and field, birthday bingo, dancing, Bible Study, and Guy’s Night Out, just to mention a few. Mike enjoyed attending and listening to the Brewers, Timber Rattlers, Dock Spiders, and nephew, Jack’s, baseball games “Charge,” and Packers games. Mike also took walks and bike rides with mom around town in the evenings. Also he took walks on the beach and sat around the campfire visiting with the camp hosts at Mauthe Lake. Mike was never without his Match Box Car. Mike is survived by his mom and dad, Shirley and Lester; brothers, Thomas (Stacy) and Jeffrey (Emilee); sister, Lisa (Brian) Arneson; nieces and nephews, Abigail, Hunter, Aiden, Joel, Jack, Sicily, Lorelai, and Adaline; also uncles and aunts, Dan and Sue Sauer, James Simon, Dale and Shelly Simon, Ken and Lauri Simon, Paul and Jane Simon, and Steve and Ronda Simon; and many cousins, and friends. Mike was preceded in death by his sister, Jessica Simon Abnet; grandparents, Florence and Linus Simon, Clarence and Martha Sauer; uncle, Fr. John Simon; and aunt, Marie, and uncle, David Sauer. Visitation will be Sunday, June 9, from 1 p.m. until the time of Mass at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 406 E. Main St., Campbellsport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Sunday, June 9, at 4 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. Rev. Mark Jones will officiate, and burial will be in St. Kilian Cemetery, St. Kilian. Nancy J. Nolte-Ermer, 80, of Campbellsport, formerly of Fillmore, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Serenity Villa in Campbellsport, with her family at her side. Nancy Nolte entered the world on November 10, 1943, in Milwaukee, born to her parents, the late Harry and Mary Nolte. Her heart was full of love for her family, especially her grandchildren. She took pleasure in her garden’s blooms and the company of birds on her travels. A master in the kitchen, Nancy was renowned for her signature dish: a succulent round steak with fluffy mashed potatoes, all topped with her signature, rich homemade gravy. She will be deeply missed by her family and everyone who knew her. Those Nancy leaves behind to cherish her memory include four children, Russell (Wendy) Ermer, Daniel (Amy) Ermer, Lee (Kaye) Ermer, and Lisa Ermer; her grandchildren, Joshua (Kayla) Ermer, Brandon (Candice) Ermer, Dylan Ermer (Olivia Strutz), Daniel Jr. “DJ” (Paige) Ermer, Jacob (Montana) Ermer, Carlin Ermer, Jed Ermer, Tesa Ermer, Zachary Steinhaus, and Lia Steinhaus; great-grandchildren, Levi, Reed, Kenadee, Addisyn, Waylon, Tinleigh, Clyde, Eleanore, Aubree, Madelyn, Walker, and Watson; her brother, Lanier (Gail) Nolte; and former husband, Harold “Rocky” Ermer; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Susan “Sue” Nolte. David J. Murphy, 74, of rural Cascade (Chinatown) passed away Monday, May 27, 2024, at SSM St. Agnes Hospital Fond du Lac. He was born in Milwaukee on June 4, 1949, the son of Francis and Maybelle (nee Corbett) Murphy. Dave graduated from John Marshall High School in Milwaukee and served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1972 during the Vietnam War. On October 26, 1985, Dave was united in marriage to Beverly Raether at St. Michael’s Church in the Town of Mitchell. Dave worked as an assembler at Giddings and Lewis in Fond du Lac until retirement. Dave was known as the mayor of Chinatown, a member of the Long Lake Preservation Assoc., the Dundee Sportsman Club, and Crooked Trails Snowmobile Club. Dave was always there if you needed help with anything. He had a great sense of humor and loved to be out on his pontoon. Dave was an avid hunter, liked being outdoors in nature, and taking trips up North and to Upper Michigan snowmobiling. Dave enjoyed trips to Ireland and Mexico with a wonderful group of friends. He would not change a thing in his life as he lived a good life and had many good times. Survivors include his beloved wife, Bev; stepson, Glenn Anderson of Sheboygan; brother, Richard Murphy of Milwaukee; other relatives, and many friends. Visitation for Dave will be Wednesday, June 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a Memorial Service following at 1 p.m. at the Twohig Funeral Home, 109 W. Main St., Campbellsport. Carol Marie Baudry, 90, of Eden peacefully left this earth and joined her heavenly home May 24, 2024, at Woodlands Senior Park, Fond du Lac. She was born in Oshkosh on December 23, 1933, daughter of Carl and Margaret (Dehorn) Fenrich. After graduating from Oshkosh High School, Carol went on to become a radiology technician, working several years at Mercy Hospital, Oshkosh. It was at an Oshkosh Eagles dance that Carol met the love of her life, LeRoy, and they later married on June 14, 1958. Carol moved to LeRoy’s family farm near Eden and adapted from life of the city to the country over the next 35 years. Carol worked by LeRoy’s side, pitching in with day-to-day chores and challenges of their dairy farm, while being a steadfast mother to five children. Carol was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Parish, Eden, and volunteered regularly for parish dinners and cleaning church for many years. Carol and LeRoy believed in Catholic Education and were devoted to assuring their children attained this. She also managed to maintain jobs outside of the home, driving school bus, cleaning houses, and bookkeeper. Carol was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and adored spending time with family never forgetting birthdays. She was an exceptional cook and liked cardinals, planting flowers, doing various crafts, quilting, ceramics, collecting bells and snowmen. In 1993, it was time for Carol and LeRoy to step away from the farm and they moved to the Village of Eden, where they settled for 31 years. Carol continued volunteering as well as helping LeRoy with a huge garden, while performing many projects around their house. Carol will be dearly missed by her beloved husband of 66 years, LeRoy; five children, Cindy (Gary) Krug of Oshkosh, Mary (Bob) Lyon of Oshkosh, JoAnn (Jim) Tart of Neenah, Tony Baudry of Fond du Lac, Renee (Mark) Wollersheim of Brownsville; eight grandchildren Jon (Bekka) Krug, Justin Krug, Nicole Roccas, Matt (Christina) Lyon, Sean Lyon, Jeff Baudry, Collin Wollersheim, Elle Wollersheim; and five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Patricia Fenrich, Rosemary (Jerry) Dettlaff; nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sue (Patrick) Cudahy; brother, David Fenrich; sisters-in-law, Georgene (Gerard) Clair, Sr. Ruth Ann Baudry; brother-in-law, Alden (Arlene) Baudry; niece, Sharon Baudry. David Ralph Hofmaier, 57, of Kewaskum, passed away peacefully May 25, 2024, after a courageous battle against cancer. David was born on November 19, 1966, to Merle and Esther Hofmaier in West Bend. He graduated from Slinger High School in 1986. On May 1, 1993, he married Michele M. Becker at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum. He had a passion for farming that was nurtured by working his grandpa’s farm and continued throughout his life, both with his home garden and his work at Beck Dairy Farms. In his early years, he also worked in construction which gave him the tools to build his family home where he raised his three children. He ended his career at Milwaukee Tool in West Bend. Always an incredibly hard worker, David never hesitated to lend a hand and use his God-given talents to help other people whenever he could. He was a kind-hearted person who demonstrated dedication and resilience throughout his life. Always the silent supporter, he was ready to jump in at any moment to help overcome any challenges. He taught us what it means to show up for those around you and to persevere through life’s difficulties. Being a devoted Catholic helped guide and strengthen him throughout his life. David was an avid sports fan, enjoying bowling, golf and baseball. He was a fan of the Brewers, Packers and Bucks; treasuring March Madness with his kids, nieces and nephews. He passed his love of sports onto his children and supported them by coaching several of their teams throughout their childhood. David leaves behind a family who’s proud to call him husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Michele Hofmaier (Becker), and children Erik, Sara and Amber Hofmaier; his mother, Esther Hofmaier (Breuer); sisters, Karen Hofmaier, Carol (Rick) Young, Debra (Randy) Eller. He is further survived by his mother-in-law, Charlotte Becker; father-in-law, Michael Becker; sister-in-law, Sherry Becker; and brothers-in-law, Paul (Jenny) Becker and Jim (Susie) Becker; nieces and nephews, Justin, Annika, Jayden, Alyssa, Jack, Megan, Emily, Tyler, Elizabeth, and Mason; and other family and friends with special mention to Joanne and Edward Mahacek, Mike Beck, the Whitewater Gang, and his friends and coworkers at Milwaukee Tool. Proceeded in death by his father, Merle Hofmaier; and nieces, Cassie and Shelby Becker. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (331 Main St., Kewaskum, WI 53040), with Father Patrick Magnor officiating. Interment will take place immediately after the ceremony at Holy Trinity Cemetery (State Hwy 28 West, Kewaskum, Wisconsin).
