Robert Giles Personius, son of Veronica and Giles Personius and father to Janet Lynn (Hanks), David Giles, Stephen Francis, Timothy Lee and Mark, grandfather to Margaret, Mei Lei, Robert, Ross, DeeAnna, Forest, Hans and Hjelle, great-grandfather to Thomas, Michael and Maximus, moved on from this life surrounded by family, music and love on November 17, 2019. Born in Valley City, ND, in 1922, and later moving to Bismarck where he graduated from high school, Robert (Bob) enjoyed hunting, fishing and exploring the rivers, marshes and prairies of North Dakota. After serving in combat in World War II in the 104th Infantry Division in France, Belgium and Germany, and earning a Bronze Star, Robert earned a B.S. degree in wildlife management at Oregon State University where he met and married Mary Dolores “Dee” Brown. Bob then earned a M.S. in Fisheries degree at the University of Minnesota where he and Dee started a family. Bob never abandoned his life-long love of conservation biology. He dedicated his career to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service including stints in Washington DC, as assistant refuge manager for Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge in Illinois, refuge manager for the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge in Wisconsin and refuge manager for the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge in California. Bob’s landmark work in wildlife management left an indelible impression upon his family with dinner time visits from conservation greats such as George Archibald and Fran Hamerstrom. Bob often recalled his favorite memories from his federal service as those during the ten years their family lived in the old farmhouse on the edge of the marsh in Horicon National Wildlife Refuge in Wisconsin. After retiring from federal service, Bob settled in Anacortes, WA, with Dee in 1989 and built their dream house overlooking Puget Sound. Dee passed away in 1997, but Bob was fortunate to meet a second remarkable woman in Ermalinda Guzman while visiting a decoy show in California. They married on November 27, 1999, and continued to enjoy the Anacortes area often spotted at garage sales, the library, music, theatre and dining venues in the area. Bob was a lifelong decoy collector and duck hunter who loved to make an annual fall hunting pilgrimage with his sons and a few high school buddies to the Prairie Pothole region of North Dakota and Canada. Bob bestowed upon his children a love of the outdoors, literature, conservation, science and art. He loved sharing a cold wind-swept duck blind, fishing boat, or mountain hike to an alpine lake with friends and family. He loved to sing, had a quick wit, and was always known and loved as a “character.” He was blessed in later years with a growing family of grandchildren and great grandchildren and passed along to them a rich history of memories of his life and times. Robert is survived by his second wife of 20 years, Ermalinda; his sister, Eileen (Walen) and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered in their hearts and minds for his love of the outdoors, conservation, science and the arts. A Rosary Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 5, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial and then a reception at St. Mary Catholic Church in Anacortes, WA. Military honors will be presented at the service. (Schellin) Dehler, 79, of Mayville passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at Clearview Nursing Home in Juneau. Carolyn was born the daughter of Alfred and Martha (Schwake) Schellin on August 9, 1940, in Evanston, IL. She was a graduate of Mayville High School. Carolyn was united in marriage to Peter Dehler on May 31, 1970, at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in town of Theresa. She worked in the Dodge County 4-H Extension Office and also farmed with her husband in rural Mayville. Carolyn was an active member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church and served on the Ladies Aid and quilters group. She was a lifelong leader and volunteer in Dodge County 4-H. She was also involved in the Dodge County Homemakers and quilters group. Carolyn was also active in the Dodge County Antique Power Club with her husband In her spare time, Carolyn enjoyed gardening, canning, tending to her flowers, and sewing. She also loved to travel to antique shows. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 49 years, Peter of Mayville; her children, George (Schelagh) Dehler of Mayville, Patricia (David) Callies of Iron Ridge, and Jerome (Holly) Dehler of Randolph; her grandchildren, Ashley, Chloe (Bronson), Erynne Dehler and Michael and Kimberley Callies; her siblings, Barb (Lee) Kornely of Beaver Dam, Diane (Ken) Kanzenbach of Horicon, Melvin (Brenda) Schellin of Theresa, and Jean (Dennis) Buss of Waterloo. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Donald. A funeral service for Carolyn will be held on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 12 p.m. at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Town of Theresa with the Rev. Douglas Zahner officiating. Sandy was born on June 17, 1937, a daughter of Harold and Norma (Graves) Schulz. She was baptized, confirmed and united in marriage at Pella Lutheran Church in Waupun. She married Duane Panzer on April 25, 1970. Sandy graduated from Waupun High School in 1956. Throughout Sandy’s working years, she was employed by Ideal Shoe Factory, Huth-James Factory both of Waupun and Chrysler Outboard Corporation in Hartford. Sandy loved to cook and bake, but most of all she was a loving mother and will be deeply missed. Sandy is survived by her son, Ron (Lynette) Panzer, Waupun; two daughters, Jean (Chuck) Lund, Oakfield and Page (Duane) Fryar, Merrill; three grandchildren, Jenna Panzer, Samantha and Spencer (Jennifer) Fryar; one great granddaughter, Madison Fryar; sister, Judi Gassner-Feucht, Mayville; sister-in-law, Sandra Panzer, Oakfield; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was born in Stratford on March 23, 1931, to parents Anton and Theresa (Baur) Schoenfuss. Rosemary was united in marriage on June 14, 1950, to Hubert Merkes. Rosemary enjoyed playing cards and board games, tending to her garden, bird watching and attending the grandchildren’s events. Rosemary is survived by six children, Debra Merkes, Perry (Roxie), Jeff (Diane), Tina (Gene) Conley, Dave (Roxie G.) and Randy (Kelly); eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Bea Merkes; two brothers, Ted Schoenfuss and Leonard (Eleanor) Schoenfuss; also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Private Graveside Service Terry L. Powers, 71, of Mayville, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019, at Cedarburg Health Services in Cedarburg. He was born August 23, 1948 in Fond du Lac to the late James D. and Marina B. (Hoerth) Powers. He served in the Army from 1968 to 1971 during the Vietnam War and served his last year in Vietnam and then went on to serve in the Navy from 1974 to 1975. For much of his life, he lived with Marina in Mayville. He lived with a diagnosed mental illness and could often be seen walking the streets of Mayville smoking a cigar. The family would like to thank the people of Mayville for watching out for him and providing a safe place for him to live out his life. Surviving him are a sister, Sherry M. (Powers) Hooper and spouse Terence of Ampthill, England and a brother Gary J. Powers and spouse, Janet Kreilein of Shorewood. He is also survived by two nieces and two nephews.
