Bail/Bond and Arraignment Hearings Held in Madison for Benjamin Larson

Posted

Friday, Sept. 11 at 9 a.m. Fond du Lac County resident Benjamin C. Larson had a hearing in Dane County regarding stalking charges. This hearing was not for the charges relating to the contents found in his basement during a search by Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.

Larson appeared via Zoom video before Judge Khandhar.

For his arraignment, he entered a not guilty plea and his bail is continued.

As for the bail/bond hearing, there was minor back and forth between how to move forward with his GPS monitoring device should he be released from custody.

His original bail/bond conditions in Dane County were that he needed to have a GPS monitoring device when released. This was followed when he posted bail in Dane County. However when he was taken into custody in Fond du Lac county, the GPS device was removed. All parties, including the defendant, expressed a want for the GPS monitoring device to be reinstated if Larson were to be released into the public.

The defendant’s attorney mentioned that the original device is located at the Fond du Lac County jail and could be reattached there if he were to be released. However it was stated that all GPS devices are different and Fond du Lac County doesn’t have the ability to reattach it.

In the event that Larson is released from custody in Fond du Lac County, he will return to Dane County to have the GPS monitoring device put back on. Raising the bail was not seen as a necessity so the body only warrant will remain.

If released, when he returns to Dane County he will also have a risk assessment by a mental health professional, likely a therapist, as a part of his bail/bond conditions.

Fond du Lac County Hearings

Larson is currently being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail after being brought in on charges of Felony Bail Jumping, Obstructing an Officer and three counts of Receiving Stolen Property (> $2500 - $5000).

On Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 11 a.m. and Friday, Sept. 4 at 9:39 a.m. he appeared before the Honorable Douglas Edelstein. On the Sept. 4 hearing an arraignment was scheduled for Monday, Sept. 28 at 1:15 p.m.

These hearings were in regards to the human remains found in his basement, not the stalking charge.

This investigation is still ongoing and all defendants are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
