Campbellsport Baseball Win Streak Reaches Seven Games to Start Season

Posted

On April 14, Campbellsport baseball beat Living Word Lutheran 6-4 for their seventh straight win to start the season.
Cambpellsport (7-0) took a 1-0 lead over LWL (1-4) thanks to Riley Kohlmann driving in Brody Nolan for the Cougars in the first inning.
LWL held a 3-1 lead over Campbellsport after four innings when the Cougars tied the game in the fifth inning highlighted by a Nolan RBI single and a sacrifice fly RBI from Braden Bothe to put the score at 3-3.
The Timberwolves took the lead back at 4-3 on a passed ball after LWL had the bases loaded with no outs when Kyler Bowe came into the game to pitch for the Cougars.

The Cougars were able to tie the game at four runs apiece for both teams when Bowe drove in Hunter Cochran at the top of the sixth inning for Campbellsport.
This Campbellsport baseball team has shown the ability to come up with key plays in big moments during their seven-game win streak to start the season which they showed again in the seventh inning by capitalizing on an LWL error scoring Nolan and executing a squeeze play scoring Bothe to take a 6-4 lead over the Timberwolves.
“The 6-4 lead was all Kyler would need to shut it down in the seventh for our team to pull out a close win at LWL on Monday night,” said Head Coach Jim Krug.
Kyler Bowe and Cullen Reis combined to strike out nine LWL batters for the Cougars in their non-conference victory.
Vs KML
On April 11, Campbellsport baseball beat Kettle Moraine Lutheran (KML) 4-3 in dramatic fashion with a walk-off single.
Campbellsport (7-0) got going in the second inning when Cullen Reis hit a double, which helped the Cougars to load the bases against KML (3-2).
Trent Schladweiler got Campbellsport on the scoreboard with a two-out RBI single to take a 2-0 lead over the Chargers.
KML responded with a run in the top of the third inning to put the score at 2-1 in favor of the Cougars.
The Cougars added to their lead thanks to an RBl single by Brody Nolan to extend their lead back to two runs at 3-1 in the fifth inning.
The Chargers tied up the game at three in the top of the seventh inning, which set the stage for a dramatic seventh inning for the Cougars.
Campbellsport had two outs on the ledger when Nolan reached base on an error and then stole second base to get into scoring position with Braden Bothe at the plate.
Bothe proceeded to hit a seeing-eye single to drive Nolan home for the winning run for the Cougars 4-3 walk-off victory.
The Cougars were led by Owen Bong’s impressive six innings on the mound and Cullen Reis’ two hits for the Campbellsport offense in the victory.
“Owen pitched a gem for us and Braden was able to come through when KML opened the door for us with the error,” said Head Coach Jim Krug.
Vs Springs
On April 10, Campbellsport baseball beat Springs 3-2 for their second win over the Ledgers in the past three days.
Campbellsport (2-0, 7-0) got on the scoreboard first when Gage Kohlmann scored in the second inning to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead over Springs (0-2, 0-2).
Springs responded with two runs in the top of the third inning to give the Ledgers a 2-1 lead, which was the first time Campbellsport had trailed in any of their five games of the early season.
The Cougars got a sacrifice fly by G. Kohlmann to tie the game at two in the bottom of the third inning.
The game would stay tied until the bottom of the sixth inning when Kyler Bowe laid down a suicide squeeze to give the Cougars a 3-2 lead over the Ledgers.
“That was all Gage would need to shut things down in the seventh inning and keep the Cougars unbeaten with a 3-2 victory,” said Head Coach Jim Krug.
Campbellsport was led by Braden Bothe’s strong six innings on the mound with five strikeouts and Kyler Bowe’s two hits for the offense.

The Cougars were able to get the bases loaded in the fourth inning. They were able to capitalize on it by manufacturing four runs with their offense, capping it off with an RBI single from Riley Kohlmann to extend the Campbellsport lead to 6-0 over Springs.
Springs was able to add three runs in the late innings to try to get closer in the game but the Cougars were able to close out the Ledgers for the 6-3 conference win.
