Campbellsport Bowling State Qualifiers

Posted

On March 7, Abby Jarmuz and Lillee Kiehnau got to experience something they hadn’t done in their lives so far. Abby and Lillee had qualified for the Wisconsin Girls Singles Championship. Both Abby and Lillee had qualified by being two of the top four girls in statistics in their conference. This tournament was only open to the top 56 female High School Bowling in the state.
Both Abby and Lillee had earned their spot leading the conference throughout the whole season. They had 2 of the top 3 B.E.R. ratings in their conference. The B.E.R. formulates strikes, spares, and opens to determine the rating for an individual bowler.
A more nervous day in sports than either one probably ever had, but this is what they had worked for all year, and it was showtime.
Abby opened up her set with a respectable 180 game while Lillee struggled with some spares to land a 144 first game. On to game two, by no means were either one of them out of the running with their first game. Both girls have and are capable of stringing strikes.
In game 2, Lillee could not overcome her case of nerves and could only muster a 155 game. Abby found her groove in game two, along with a couple extra strikes to post a 200 game; at this pace, she was headed for the second round of qualifying. Meanwhile, Lillee had taken herself out of the running.
In game 3, Abby struggled with a couple of spares, and she rolled a 168 game for a 548 total. Abby missed the second round by 31 pins, just three spares to end up in 31st place. Abby averaged 182 on the day, something she should be proud of.
Lillee just couldn’t find it and had to settle for a 147 game and 55th place. To get to the State Tournament is an accomplishment by itself, but both girls gave it their all. Now, they had to focus on the team event, and that would turn out much better.
