Campbellsport High School Art Club and Drexel Work Together on Community Mural

Posted

Campbellsport High School Art Club and Drexel put up a Community Mural on display on Main Street in Campbellsport between Blue Door Coffee Co. and the Pan and Parlor.
At the beginning of the school year, Drexel had asked the Campbellsport High School Art Club to create a mural for Main Street.
“My arts students (Allison Carpenter, Evie Glover, Jaedyn Burns, Sadie Homuth, Olyvia Haynes, Valentia Longinos, Gracie Scannell, Sadie Homuth, and Paige Dysert) were up for the challenge,” said Campbellsport High School Art Teacher Erin Nelson. “Jaedyn, Olyvia, and Sadie are my three art club seniors and AP Art and Design students who submitted designs and met with Drexel to discuss this project.”
From brainstorming ideas, creating concept designs, proposing ideas, adjusting to feedback, and finally painting the mural, the Art Club and Drexel worked together on the mural project.
“The talent coming out of the CHS Art Club was so cool to watch unfold. For us, this was about more than just a donation to the Art club in exchange for a splash of color on the building, it was a chance to give these kids a real-world ‘shark tank’ project for them to work on - from coming into the office to pitch their first brainstorms, solidifying the final design, to producing the finished work of art - they handled the whole thing like pros,” said Drexel Property Manager Mandy Goerman. “We were just happy to provide the canvas for them to leave their mark on the neighborhood, and we think the results look awesome - next time you’re in Campbellsport, be sure to check it out.”
“This opportunity provided my students with so many great lessons about the business side of creating art for a client,” said Nelson. “Thank you to Drexel for providing this opportunity to my students and the generous donation of materials and supplies to the Campbellsport High School Art Club.”
