Campbellsport School Board of Education Meeting Notes

Posted

At the Campbellsport School Board of Education meeting on Sept. 14, there was discussion about the seclusion and restraint report, the district’s finances and other events soon to come.

The 2025-2026 school year Seclusion and Restraint Report was presented by Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, Dr. Sally Kellman.

In the report she outlined how many instances of seclusion and restraint occurred in the previous school year. There were 22 instances of seclusion with four kids being involved and 35 instances of restraint also with four kids involved. The four kids involved in both seclusion and restraint were students with disabilities.

Seclusion is defined as the involuntary confinement of a student apart from others in which they are prevented from leaving. Restraint is defined as restriction which immobilizes and reduces the ability of a student to move their torso, arms, legs or head.

The school is working with mental health specialists to support students for the 2026-2027 school year. Creative Roots is the service they will utilize. They are also looking to form several support groups for students and provide students with counseling at school.

Mark Wittig spoke at the meeting regarding the school district’s finances. He highlighted how they are making efforts to ensure the records match up with what they are actually spending.

This includes doing more reviews including a quarterly review and a monthly check in on the state of their finances.

In a future board meeting, the board will have to approve the 10 Year Facilities Capital Plan.

The board also had a discussion about opening the doors to the school early before a meeting on Monday, Oct. 26 at or around 6 p.m. This would allow community members to walk on a guided tour to see the facility.

Having Campbellsport High School students guide the tour was something that was mentioned as well.

The school board invites all those who are interested in touring the facility to arrive early to that meeting, including members from town or village boards that the Campbellsport School District represents.

A quick training session for the board members to get acquainted with their new chromebooks occurred during the meeting. They will use these chromebooks for all their school board related activities so they no longer have to rely on personal devices.

Three board members achieved a new level in the Wisconsin Association of School Boards. The program recognizes school board members for their effort and leadership. James Ninnemann achieved level one, Maureen Koch achieved level three and Keith Peters achieved level four.

Action Taken

The meeting minutes were approved for the Aug. 17 board meeting and the Aug. 26 special board meeting.

Approval was granted for expenses, payroll and receipts.

The board approved the FFA to go to the FFA National Convention on Tuesday, Oct. 20 to Friday, Oct. 23, in Indianapolis, Ind. for up to six members.

They approved the hiring of two support staff members.
