The staff at the Kettle Moraine State Forest – Northern Unit partnered with the United Way of Sheboygan County and the Volunteer Center of Sheboygan County to offer a Day of Caring event on September 25 at the Greenbush Recreation Area within the Northern Unit.
More than 60 volunteers from Rehlko and several more from Sheboygan County Cycling and Northern Kettle Moraine Nordic Ski Club joined forces with the Forest staff to accomplish a full day of projects. They installed a beautiful, large group fire ring with surrounding benches and hot coal bin near the warming shelter for visitors to enjoy. Volunteers stained and stocked the woodshed with firewood for the woodstove inside the warming shelter for the cold weather months. They reset fire rings at each of the group camping sites, deep cleaned the enclosed shelter inside and out, cleared brush from the ski trail system in preparation for snow grooming, and rebuilt four segments of the single-track mountain bike trail to help prevent erosion.
The Friends of the Kettle Moraine provided snacks and a hearty lunch from Eden’s Meat Market for the hard-working volunteers and staff!
The Kettle Moraine State Forest-Northern Unit is extremely grateful for this amazing community effort that completed so many projects for the diverse users of the Greenbush Recreation Area.
When you are in the neighborhood, come check out the wonderful projects that were accomplished.
