On July 9, the Fond du Lac Symphonic Band will be coming for their annual performance at the Campbellsport Fireman’s Park, with the event kicking off at 5:30 p.m., and food available by the Campbellsport 4-H Club.
The Fond du Lac Symphonic Band will start performing their free public performance at 7:15 p.m., with the Campbellport Area Chamber of Commerce, which has worked with the band and the 4-H Club to bring this wonderful event to our community, with financial support for the event from Schlaefer Optometrist and Wright Veterinary Clinic.
The band started in 1898 with 24 male musicians known as the Fond du Lac Military Band, and women started to join the band in 1938.
The group performed at various venues, including the Victorian bandstand at Lakeside Park, thus establishing the band’s association with local parks and picnic spots.
The band in 1973 began a transition led by Ray Wifler that attracted over 70 musicians and changed the name to the Fond du Lac Community Band to better reflect the new band direction to perform year- round by creating connections to school band programs.
In 1989, the group made a final name change to the current Fond du Lac Symphonic Band.
Their playlist for their July 9 performance will include a variety of tunes that will appeal to young and old.
