Kewaskum Historical Society Celebrates 50 Years of Early Farm Days

Posted

The Kewaskum Historical Society marked a major milestone Sunday with the 50th anniversary of Early Farm Days. The event took place at the Kewaskum Historical Society Museum and Log Cabin in River Hill Park.
The event featured steam and gas engines, threshing demonstrations, and displays of antique farm machinery. Collectors from across the area brought equipment to showcase, continuing a tradition that began in 1974.
Families enjoyed horse-drawn wagon rides, a petting zoo provided by members of the Kewaskum FFA, and live music by the Goodtime Dutchmen polka band. Food stands were busy throughout the day, with homemade pies proving especially popular.
This year’s celebration also highlighted updates at the Kewaskum Historical Society Museum. The building received a facelift with new exterior doors, refurbished siding, and a refreshed exterior sign. A brand-new sign promoting Early Farm Days was also installed, thanks to the work of volunteers. Special recognition went to Glenn Goodearle for his help with the improvements. The visitors log in the museum had over 400 guests sign in during the event.
Visitors had the opportunity to tour both the museum and the society’s historic log cabin, gaining a closer look at Kewaskum’s past. Exhibitors who participated in Early Farm Days were recognized with commemorative plaques, honoring their contributions to keeping the history of farming alive. There were an estimated 1,000 attendees at the event.
Aaron Laatsch from the Kewaskum Historical Society said, “Our 50th Early Farm Days was such a success. We had a record turnout of exhibitors and guests, and the weather couldn’t have been better. It was amazing to see the community come together to support us in our 50th year and to celebrate Kewaskum’s history and farming heritage. I’m so grateful for all the volunteers who helped make it possible.”
