Opposition to the past expulsion of a School District of Kewaskum student was expressed during the public comment segment of the Board of Education meeting on Thursday, July 17. Anonymous letters were read, and two community members spoke in regard to the student’s potential to return to school.
Board Matters:
• The school board discussed adopting the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Special Education Model Forms and Policies and Procedures Manual. A motion to adopt the manual was made by Bradley Petersen and passed 4 to 0. Vice President Tim Ramthun, Clerk Stephanie Bird, and Sue Miller were absent from the meeting.
• The board also discussed approving the annual declaration and partner notice of the Kewaskum School District’s student academic standards for the 2025-2026 school year. The motion to approve the declaration and parent notice was made by Petersen and passed unanimously.
• The board considered purchasing Structured Literacy Academy for specialized literacy training professional development at the cost of $14,000. Treasurer Ric Leitheiser made the motion to approve the purchase, which passed unanimously.
