Kindness in Bloom: Second Graders Brighten Campbellsport with May Day Tradition

Posted

On May 1st, Residents across local neighborhoods received a colorful surprise this week as second-grade students from Campbellsport Elementary took to the streets to celebrate May Day.
The students hand-delivered traditional May Day baskets to community members; a gesture aimed at spreading spring cheer to the neighbors who support the school throughout the year.
The tradition of gifting baskets dates back centuries, originally intended to bring friends and neighbors luck for a bountiful autumn harvest.
The morning was filled with fun surprises, including one student who had the special opportunity to deliver a basket directly to his grandfather’s door while wishing him a happy birthday.

The day of community engagement didn’t end with the deliveries. Following their route, the students visited the local library for a celebration of their own hard work.
There, they viewed their “digitally published” planet books, a culmination of their recent science and writing units.
Library staff also gave the students a preview of upcoming summer programs, encouraging the young authors to keep reading all summer long!
