Laatsch’s Piggly Wiggly is preparing to start the celebrations for their 150th anniversary with a ribbon cutting on January 24 at 10:00 a.m.
The store was founded in 1876 by Nicholas Marx. Since then, five generations of the Marx, Geidel, and Laatsch families have run the store with the same level of service and commitment to the community. It is currently owned and operated by Aaron Laatsch and his wife, Amy, who officially took over ownership on February 26, 2023.
The celebration will officially start on January 21, with a tribute to third-generation owners Harold “Mixie” and Eleanor Marx. The January 24 ribbon cutting date honors the grand opening of the IGA Foodliner in 1962, which also falls on Mixie’s birthday.
In a news release from Laatsch’s Piggly Wiggly, owner Aaron Laatsch said, “We are honored to carry forward a legacy of service and commitment that began 150 years ago. This milestone represents not just our family’s history but the incredible support of the Kewaskum community.” They also gave credit to their team saying, “Their loyalty, hard work, and care for customers have helped create the friendly, welcoming store generations of customers have come to know.”
More details on upcoming events and promotions throughout the year will be released soon.
