Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum Partners with Habitat for Humanity

Posted

A longstanding tradition continued earlier this summer when a group of volunteers from Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum traveled to work with Habitat for Humanity.
Peace Church members Karen Kletti, Karen Fellenz, Grace Loser, Lauren Krebs, and Pastor Eric Kirkegaard traveled to Winston-Salem, N.C., to help build homes for people in need of housing.
The group arrived in North Carolina on a Friday and began working at their first job site on Saturday. Sunday was a day for touring the Winston-Salem area, before getting back to work on Monday for several more days.
Habitat for Humanity volunteers work on whatever tasks are asked of them while on site. During this trip, the Peace Church group worked on four different houses. They installed closet shelving at the first home. At the second home, they spent two days working on siding. Next up
was installing laminate flooring in an entire home. Finally, the group helped install floor joists at their last home for the week.

Peace Church has been participating in Habitat trips since 1987. Karen Kletti has been involved from the beginning. She has now worked on 57 Habitat for Humanity mission trips, while Pastor Eric Kirkegaard has been on 58 of them. “I enjoy being able to help a family in need,” said
Kletti.
Peace Church has sponsored 75 trips to different cities and states. There have been 382 different people that have gone on Habitat trips since 1987.
Habitat for Humanity believes “everyone, everywhere should have a healthy, affordable place to call home.” More information can be found at habitat.org. More information about Peace United Church of Christ can be found at peace-ucc.org.
