On March 22, Excitement filled the air as the Shining Stars Dance Team of special needs children and adults celebrated a milestone moment: their very first prom at St. Matthew’s in Campbellsport.
Families, dancers, and volunteers gathered for a magical afternoon that many described as nothing short of extraordinary.
From the moment guests arrived, the atmosphere sparkled with joy. Trees shimmered with lights and stars, beautifully decorated with gold and silver ornaments, while a glowing archway welcomed dancers onto a red carpet fit for royalty. Helping bring this vision to life,
Volz Concrete provided concrete weights that secured the decorated trees, adding both stability and charm to the enchanting setting.
Parents beamed with pride as their children, dressed in their finest, stepped into a dream come true.
Earlier in the day, the transformation began. Generous hairstylists, makeup artists, and nail technicians donated their time and talents to help each dancer feel their very best.
Every participant was adorned with a wrist corsage or boutonnière, along with a crown or tiara and a sash proudly declaring them Prom King or Queen.
The grand entrance set the tone for the day. As each dancer made their way down the red carpet, they were cheered on by the Campbellsport High School Dance Team, creating a moment filled with celebration and support. The energy carried into St. Matthew’s Gym, where the festivities continued.
Inside, the gym was alive with music, laughter, and activity. Dancers sang their favorite songs during karaoke, played bingo, won door prizes, and filled the dance floor with joy.
Entertainment was provided by Downtown Harrison, keeping the crowd energized throughout the event.
Guests also enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by the Campbellsport Lions Club, while Campbellsport BP generously provided cookies for everyone.
Friends of the coaching staff volunteered their time to serve food and drinks and contributed a variety of gluten-free baked goods, ensuring everyone could enjoy the celebration.
The event was truly a community effort, bringing together families, volunteers, and local organizations to create an inclusive and memorable experience.
The entire family was invited to share in the celebration, making it a day filled with love, connection, and pride.
For many, the impact of the event was deeply felt. Linda Flood, parent of dancer Angel Flood, shared her heartfelt reaction:
“Wow it is hard to put words to this event! Awesome, Grand, Glorious, Beautiful, Unbelievable, Remarkable, Extraordinary, EPIC! These words seem to fall short of the wonderful experience the team had. Every person in the building was BEAMING. I think we all knew we were in on something GRAND.”
As the evening came to a close, one question remained—should this become an annual tradition? When asked, the dancers responded with an enthusiastic and unanimous: “Yes!”
With such overwhelming joy and support, the Shining Stars Dance Team’s first prom was more than just an event—it was the beginning of a cherished tradition that will continue to light up the lives of dancers and their families for years to come.
