SSM Health Shares Upcoming Health Safety Events

Posted

SSM Health serving Fond du Lac County shares many updates including car seat safety checks, flu vaccines and their support of mental health services for kids.

Car Seat Safety Check

A free child seat safety check will be available on Monday, Sept. 21 at Fond du Lac Fire Department Station 1, 815 S. Main Street, Fond du Lac from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Every year thousands of young kids are injured or killed in car crashes. By checking that their seat is installed correctly can help keep them safe.

Four out of five car seats are either not installed correctly or used correctly. At the fire department, a certified technician will make sure that the car seat is safe and installed correctly, whether it be a new or existing seat in the car.

They will also be able to answer questions concerning transitioning between car seats, booster seats and regular seat belts.

Free car seats are available for eligible families facing financial barriers.

Bringing the child, car seat, car seat instructions and vehicle owner’s manual to the event is preferred.

Limited availability. Preregistration is required to secure a spot. To register, visit https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4BA5AF23A0FAC25-64876474-carseat.

Community Benefit Gift

SSM Health provided a $5,000 community benefit gift to Fondy CARES. Their school-based mental health program increases access to behavioral health services for underinsured and uninsured students in the Fond du Lac school district.

Fondy CARES was established in 2018 and partners with mental health agencies in the community to give licensed therapy to schools during the day.

This program helps to remove barriers like cost, transportation, scheduling and the stigma that sometimes comes with seeking mental health help.

This funding aims to support a 15-session evidence-based counseling model for at most 20 students in the 26-27 school year. The service will be provided with no out-of-pocket cost to the families.

“Students are experiencing increasingly complex mental health challenges, and timely access to care can make a significant difference in their well-being, academic success and future health,” according to Shane Smith, SSM Health Fond du Lac Market president. “Through partnerships like Fondy CARES, we are helping ensure that students and families can access the support they need, regardless of financial circumstances.”

All 14 schools within the Fond du Lac school district are served by Fondy CARES.
