Robert Curtis Schmidt
Robert Curtis Schmidt, 75, of Milwaukee, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee from severe injuries suffered when a speeding car crashed into him while he was stopped at a red light.
Bob, as he was known to family and friends, was born on March 9, 1949, to Paul and Elveira (nee Zirbel) Schmidt.
He was united in marriage with Faye Lehman on November 2, 1968, in Hustisford.
Bob served our country in the United States Army from 1968-1971.
A notorious jokester and roving comedian, Bob was well loved for his unique sense of humor and being the life of the party. A lover of music, particularly blues and classic rock, he enjoyed playing his acoustic guitar and attending concerts by his favorite artists. A strong athlete in high school, he continued to enjoy playing basketball (at least until his knees gave out), volleyball, golf, and bowling. He was a major fan of the Green Bay Packers, technically a co-owner, and attended the famous Ice Bowl – a fact he would bring up seemingly every few minutes. He also enjoyed gardening, photography, ales and lagers, Summerfest, tailgating at Brewers games, and playing cards, especially Sheepshead which earned him the moniker “The King of Queens.” An early adopter of technology and video cameras, he was also known as “Video Bob” for his well-received home movies and videos, which were quite elaborate for their time. He was a dog lover, supportive husband, terrific father, and the kind of grandfather (known as Pappy) who could never quite decide if he wanted to spoil his grandchildren or just make them laugh. So he did both.
Bob is survived by his adoring wife of 55 years, Faye Schmidt; loving sons, Jason (Ellen) of New York City, and Justin (Holly Wells) of Uhrichsville, Ohio; brother, Wayne of Hartford; brother-in-law, Norbert Lehmann (Jill) of Eau Claire; and cherished grandchildren, Amelia and Vivian. He is further survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Norbert and Priscilla (nee Radloff) Lehmann; brother-in-law, Keith Lehmann, and sister-in-law, Joyce Bartelt and her husband, Tom.
A Memorial Service honoring Bob’s life will be held Friday, June 14, at 2:30 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home, 824 Union Street, Hartford, WI 53027. Family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Please feel welcome to wear Bob’s favorite color, purple.
Private committal services will be held with military honors at Hustisford Cemetery, Hustisford.
