On April 10, Campbellsport baseball beat Living Word Lutheran 9-8 at home in a non-conference matchup.
Living Word Lutheran (2-1) was leading 1-0 in the first inning before Campbellsport (3-2) scored three runs, with two of the runs coming after the Cougars got the bases loaded with one out thanks to RBI singles from Carter Gellings and Levi Bentz to take a 3-1 lead.
The Cougars got the bases loaded again in the third inning with zero outs, which Campbellport converted into two runs, including a Bentz RBI single to left that increased their lead to 5-1.
LWL scored two runs in the fourth inning to close the gap to 5-3, but the Cougars got one of those back in the bottom of the fourth inning when Gage Kohlmann hit an RBI single to make the score 6-3
The Timberwolves won’t go away in the game with LWL scoring two runs in the fifth inning to tighten the game at 6-5 before the Cougars responded with three runs featuring a Sawyer Galligan RBI single and a RBI double from Trent Schladweiler to push the Campbellsport lead to 9-5 after five innings.
Campbellsport took the 9-5 lead into the seventh inning when LWL scored three runs before bringing the winning run to the plate with a runner on first base and two outs in the inning.
Kohlmann secured the 9-8 non-conference win with a strikeout to close out the game for the Cougars.
Trent Schladweiler got the win with four innings pitched by striking out five batters, and Levi Bentz led the offense with two runs batted in.
“We were able to hold on for a 9-8 win to close out the week,” said Head Coach Jim Krug.
Vs Springs
On April 9, Campbellsport baseball lost 9-3 at home to Springs, dropping the season series to the Ledgers in the Flyway Conference.
Springs (2-0, 2-0) scored runs in each of the first four innings to take an 8-0 lead over Campbellsport (3-2, 1-1).
The Cougars got a two-run RBI single to left from Cullen Reis and a Jace Goebel RBI single to left in the fifth inning to make the score 8-3 in favor of the Ledgers.
The Ledgers tacked on another run in the seventh inning to increase their lead to 9-3 before Campbellsport got the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Campbellsport wasn’t able to score any runs from the bases loaded opportunity, giving Springs the 9-3 conference win.
Cullen Reis led the Cougars offense with two runs batted in the conference matchup.
At Springs
On April 8, Campbellsport baseball lost 14-4 in six innings to Springs on the road, with the game played at Mt. Calvary.
Springs (2-0, 2-0) scored one run in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead over Campbellsport (3-2, 1-1)
Cullen Reis hit a leadoff double to start the fourth inning for the Cougars, which was followed by RBI singles from Gage Kohlmann and Carter Gellings to tie the game at two before the Ledgers scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead at 7-2.
The Ledgers added three more runs in the fifth inning to increase their lead to 10-2 before Gellings hit an RBI single to left in the top of the sixth inning to close the gap to 10-4.
Springs scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win the game in six innings by the score of 14-4 over Campbellsport.
Carter Gellings led the Cougars with three hits and two runs batted in the conference matchup.
Campbellsport hosted Mayville on April 14 after print time. The Cougars will travel to Mayville on April 16 at 5 p.m. and to Chilton on April 17 at 5 p.m.
