On June 4, Campbellsport lost 5-4 to six-seed Xavier at home in the second round of the WIAA Division 2 baseball tournament.
Xavier (14-12) took a 2-0 lead over Campbellsport (18-9) in the first inning before the Cougars responded in the bottom of the first inning with two runs.
The Cougars got an RBI single from Braden Bothe for the first run, and Brody Nolan came across to score the second run of the inning to tie the game up at two.
Kyler Bowe hit an RBI double with two outs in the second inning to give the Cougars a 3-2 lead over Xavier.
Campbellsport was able to extend their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Nolan hit a double to left field with two outs to drive in a run to extend their lead to 4-2.
Xavier was able to score three runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-4 lead over the hosting Cougars.
The Cougars looked to respond with their offense in the seventh inning like they have done all year.
Campbellsport was able to load the bases in the inning, but they weren’t able to get the tying or winning runs across to survive and advance in this second-round tournament matchup.
The Cougars went home earlier than expected with a 5-4 loss in the contest against Xavier.
Campbellsport seniors Colton Ruplinger, Brody Nolan, Ben Sabish, Elijah Fleischman, Braden Bothe, Owen Bong, Riley Kohlmann, and Hunter Cochran played their final game as Cougars after helping lead Campbellsport to the Flyway Conference championship.
