Campbellsport Baseball Splits Series Against Lomira

On April 28, Campbellsport baseball lost 13-10 to Fond du Lac on a walkoff grand slam for Fond du Lac in the non-conference matchup.
Campbellsport (10-2) was able to score two runs in the second inning after getting the bases loaded against Fond du Lac (6-5) to take a 2-0 lead before the Cardinals tied the game up at two in the bottom of the second inning.
The Cougars were able to convert two different bases loaded situations in the third inning into three runs, highlighted by a Trent Schladweiler RBI double to take a 5-2 lead, but Fond du Lac responded with two runs to make the score 5-4 in favor of Campbellsport.
Campbellsport got three singles from Branden Bothe, Cullen Reis, Zach Zimdahl to load the bases in the game again for the Cougars, which they converted into three runs thanks to Hunter Cochran Sac Fly and Schladweiler hitting his second double to drive in two teammates to give the Cougars a 8-4 lead over the Cardinals.

Fond du Lac scored three more runs to keep pace with the Cougars in this high-scoring baseball game, to place the score 8-7 with the visiting Cougars leading on the scoreboard.
The Cougars' bats started the fifth inning with a bang by Jace Goebel getting a single, which was followed by Brody Nolan blasting a two-run home run over the left field fence, giving Campbellsport a boost in their lead to 10-7.
The Cardinals were trailing 10-9 with two outs on the seventh inning ledger, but Fond du Lac had the bases loaded, leading to a high-leverage moment for the two teams with the game’s final result hanging in the balance.
Fond du Lac got the final big moment in the game with a walk-off grand slam to give the Cardinals a 13-10 hard-fought win against the Cougars.
Trent Schladweiler paced with Cougars with three hits, which resulted in five runs batted in the high-scoring game between the two teams.
At Kewaskum
On April 25, Campbellsport’s baseball game against Kewaskum was suspended going into the 11th inning, with the teams tied at five runs apiece due to darkness during the cool spring game.
Campbellsport (10-2) and Kewaskum (8-4) was a back-and-forth affair during the 10 innings of baseball covering three hours.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Kyler Bowe scored for Campbellsport before Kewaskum responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at one.
Kewaskum scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-1 lead, but the Cougars got the runs back in the top of the fourth inning with two runs of their own to tie up the game at 3-3.
The Indians took the lead back in the fifth inning with two runs to put the pressure back on the Cougars, where Campbellsport was up to the challenge by getting the two runs back on their side of the ledger with a Bowe RBI double and a Jace Goebel sac fly to bring the game back to a tie at five in the top of the sixth inning.
Pitching and defense from both teams was the highlight for both teams during the last four innings of the game before the two teams had their game stopped due to darkness.
The two teams aren’t aware if and when the game will be resumed to finish their baseball non-conference matchup.
At Lomira
On April 24, Campbellsport baseball beat Lomira 12-1 in five innings to split the season series between the two good area baseball teams.
Campbellsport’s (10-2, 5-1) offense got started with a Jace Goebel double to center field, which was followed by a Riley Kohlmann two-run RBI single with two outs to take a 2-0 lead over Lomira (8-4, 4-2) in the first inning.
The Cougars got the bases loaded, which they capitalized on to score five runs, highlighted by a Brody Nolan RBI single and an R. Kohlmann two-run RBI double to increase their lead to 7-0 in the second inning.
Campbellsport’s hitters continued the potent swings of their bats with a single from Kyler Bowe and another double from Goebel to set up RBI singles from Nolan and Bothe to extend their lead to nine runs before two more Cougars crossed the plate with two outs to close the top of the third inning with an 11-0 lead on the scoreboard over the host Lions.
R. Kohlmann’s fifth RBI of the game came with a single in the fourth inning to finish off the Cougars’ scoring on the day to go home with a 12-1 win in five innings after Lomira scored their only run of the game in the fifth inning.
“We bounced back with a big win on Thursday night in Lomira,” said Head Coach Jim Krug.
Braden Bothe was strong on the mound by shutting down the powerful Lions’ offense to one run, and the Cougars’ offense was explosive, paced by Riley Kohlmann’s five runs batted in on three hits.
Vs Lomira
On April 22, Campbellsport baseball lost 8-2 to Lomira at home for their first defeat of the season.
Lomira (8-4, 4-2) took an early 2-0 lead over Campbellsport (10-2, 5-1) in the first inning.
The Cougars responded with a two-run RBI single from Brody Nolan to tie the game at two runs in the third inning.
The Lions scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead over Campbellsport.
One defensive highlight for the Cougars was a leaping catch in left field by Hunter Cochran to limit the Lions from scoring in the fifth inning.
Lomira would add three more runs in the sixth inning to increase their lead to six runs to help the Lions secure the 8-2 conference win over the Cougars.
Campbellsport baseball traveled to Laconia on April 29 and hosts Laconia on May 1. Then, the Cougars travel to CWC on May 2, with all game times at 5 p.m.
