On February 18, Campbellsport boys basketball beat NFDL 71-55 at home for their Flyway matchup.
Campbellsport (6-16, 4-9) trailed 6-0 early to NFDL (0-19, 0-13) before the Cougars went on a 13-0 scoring run, featuring three-pointers from Jace Goebel, Noah Bobb, and Braden Bothe, to get their lead to 13-6.
Bobb made another three-pointer to end the 5-0 scoring run by the Orioles for a score of 16-11 in favor of the Cougars.
The Cougars went on a 9-4 scoring stretch, highlighted by an Owen Bong three-pointer, to extend their lead to 25-15 over NFDL.
Two baskets a piece from Bobb and Emmett Gonnering helped Campbellsport expand their first-half advantage over the Orioles to 35-19.
Campbellsport closed out the final minute of the half with a Goebel layup and then a last-second three-pointer from Carter Gellings to make the halftime score 40-23, with the Cougars ahead on the scoreboard.
The Cougars started the second half fast by scoring the first nine points, with Gonnering showing his versatility by converting an offensive rebound and a steal into baskets for his Campbellsport team with the score at 49-23.
Goebel scored five straight points, including a three-pointer, to maintain the big advantage for the Cougars at 54-32.
Campbellsport continued their strong play by getting a two-point finish in the paint by Gonnering and Goebel knocking down his third three-point make of the game to put the score at 61-37 in favor of the Cougars.
Gonnering capped off his impressive night by scoring six more points for the Cougars to take any hope away from the Orioles, with Campbellsport sitting at 67-48.
The Cougars closed the final couple of minutes to walk off the court with a 71-55 win over the Orioles.
Emmett Gonnering paved the way with 19 points, with Jace Goebel and Noah Bobb each scoring 13 points to help Campbellsport earn the victory.
Vs Mayville
On February 21, Campbellsport boys basketball lost to Mayville 52-34 at home in their conference matchup.
Campbellsport (6-16, 4-9) took an early 4-2 lead over Mayville (6-15, 4-9) when Noah Bobb got a steal and converted it into two points for the Cougars.
The Cougars were down 13-10 to the Cardinals after Bobb and Emmett Gonnering scored a basket apiece for Campbellsport.
The Cardinals closed the first half on an 18-2 scoring stretch to go into the halftime locker rooms with a 31-12 lead.
Mayville was ahead 36-14 early in the second half before the Cougars scored nine consecutive points to attempt to claw their way back into the game, highlighted by a nice cut to the basket for a bucket by Jace Goebel and a three-pointer from Owen Bong, to make the score 36-23 in favor of the Cardinals.
The Campbellsport comeback wasn’t meant to be when the Cardinals scored 14 straight points to tighten their grip on the game with a 50-23 lead over the hosting Cougars.
Mayville was able to finish off the game to get a 52-34 road victory before the WIAA boys’ tournament brackets came out on Sunday.
Noah Bobb led the Cougars with eight points in the conference matchup.
Campbellsport boyg basketball hosts Oakfield on February 25 and Laconia on February 27 to wrap up their regular season with game times scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Cougars received the eighth seed in Division 3 of the WIAA tourament and will host ninth-seeded Sheboygan Falls in a rematch from the regular season on March 4 at 7 p.m.
