On February 4, Campbellsport boys basketball lost 61-42 to Lomira in their conference game on the road.
Campbellsport (4-14, 2-7) took a 6-5 lead over Lomira (12-3, 7-2) after Emmett Gonnering scored four consecutive points for the Cougars.
Lomira scored eight consecutive points when Jace Goebel scored five straight points, including a three-point shot, to put the score at 13-11 in favor of the Lions.
The Lions were leading 17-11 before the Cougars went on a scoring binge of eight straight points, featuring an old-fashioned, three-point play by Carter Gellings and a standard three-pointer from Luke Pendowski, to give Campbellsport a 19-17 lead.

In a game of scoring spurts, Lomira proceeded to go on a 12-0 scoring run. The Cougars’ Noah Bobb drained a three-pointer to put the halftime score at 29-22, with the Lions holding the seven-point lead.
Campbellsport closed the gap in the second half against Lomira when Bobb made a hanging jumper in the lane and Pendowski scored a basket to make the score 34-28, with the Lions in the lead.
Gonnering made a basket for Campbellsport with the scoreboard showing a score of 37-30, with Lomira leading in the game.
Lomira put the game out of reach by making four consecutive three-point shots to extend their lead to 51-30 before Bobb made a nice spinning finish for the Cougars.
The Lions closed out the rest of the game in the 61-42 victory against their Hwy 67 rival.
Noah Bobb’s 10 points paved the way for the Cougars in the matchup.
At Omro
On February 7, Campbellsport boys basketball beat Omro 62-60 right before the final buzzer.
Campbellsport (5-14, 3-7) was ahead 8-5 over Omro (7-9, 3-7) after Trent Schladweiler made a three-pointer for the Cougars.
The Cougars got two old-fashioned, three-point plays from Emmett Gonnering and Schladweiler to put the Cougars ahead 15-11 in the first half.
The game continued its back-and-forth feel when Noah Bobb made two consecutive baskets for Campbellsport to put the Cougars ahead 22-20, with six minutes left in the first half.
Omro finished the half on a 13-5 run to give the Foxes a 33-27 halftime lead over the visiting Cougars.
Campbellsport got a three-pointer from Jace Goebel and nice reversal hoop from underneath by Bobb to close the gap on the scoreboard to 39-34, in favor of Omro.
The Cougars scored the next four points of the game to bring the score to 39-38 with 13 minutes showing on the second-half clock.
Bobb scored a basket with 6:40 left in the game to tighten the game at 47-44, but the Foxes scored on the ensuing possession to push the lead back to 50-44.
Campbellsport continued to push back into the game with a basket from Goebel and two free throws from Bobb to make the score 50-48, in favor of the Foxes.
The Cougars were finally able to break through with a second-half lead when Emmett Gonnering converted an offensive rebound into his two points and Bobb made two free throws to give Campbellsport a 55-54 lead with 3:20 remaining in the game.
Omro would go on to score the next six points in the game to regain the lead 60-55 with 1:20 left in the game.
Campbellsport got a big block shot by Gonnering with one minute left when the Foxes seemed to have a clear path to the hoop, which could have sealed the game for Omro.
The block was the start of great defensive plays by the Cougars’ team defense in the last minute of the game.
“The guys never quit when it mattered the most in the game when they dug even deeper with our defense amped up by creating a lot of chaos,” said Head Coach Ethan Elliott.
Following a Luke Pendowksi free throw, the Cougars' defensive full-court pressure got back-to-back steals which were converted into layups by Schladweiler and Gonnering to tie the game at 60 with 22.8 left in the game.
The Cougars were able to get a stop on the defensive end when Cullen Reis saved the ball by the sideline right by the Omro bench and got the ball into the hands of Goebel to start the Cougars’ offensive push up the court.
Goebel gave a great pass ahead to find a streaking Schladweiler down the right-hand side of the court with the final seconds ticking down on the clock.
Schladweiler gathered the pass in and proceeded to finish the final play of the game with a layup for the Cougars to beat the final buzzer to give Campbellsport a thrilling 62-60 victory to sweep the season series against their Flyway Conference foe, Omro.
“Cullen, Jace, and Trent all demonstrated a lot of poise on the save-and-run out after the defensive possession. Everything was happening fast but they were under control,” said Elliott. “I was happy for the guys to win a close game. Seeing how happy the boys were after the win will be a memory they will never forget.”
Noah Bobb’s 18 points and Trent Schladweiler’s 14 points led the way for Campbellsport’s dramatic win.
