Campbellsport Boys Basketball Gets Two Wins at Home

Posted

On January 9, Campbellsport boys’ basketball defeated Random Lake 78-38 in a dominating win at home in their non-conference contest.
Campbellsport (3-8) stormed out to a 14-0 lead over Random Lake (1-10), thanks to four points apiece from Trent Schladweiler and Trevin Shea.
Noah Bobb scored eight straight points, including two three-pointers, for the Cougars, which was followed up with three-pointers from Schladweiler and Quinten Cappozzo to extend the Campbellsport lead to 30-4.
“The guys’ first key during pregame was to start fierce. and it was an important step in our process to getting better,” said Head Coach Ethan Elliott. “They went out and did that which was great to see.”

Schladweiler knocked down his third three-pointer of the game, and Bobb converted two offensive rebounds into four points to help push the Campbellsport lead to 40-8.
Shea drained a three and then stole the ball, which Pierce Kaehne converted into a fast-break layup for a commanding 47-10 lead for the Cougars over the Rams.
Bobb continued his impressive first half by scoring six more points for the Cougars to give him 18 points in the first half and a 53-15 halftime lead for Campbellsport.
“The game is a lot easier when shots go in,” said Elliott. “Noah has become a lot more consistent, which makes the game easier for the other players.”
Cullen Reis converted an old-fashioned three-point play to start the second half, and Carter Gellings scored two baskets to give Campbellsport a 62-19 lead over Random Lake.
Campbellsport’s Levi Bentz got into the scoring binge for the Cougars by scoring five straight points to further extend their lead to 67-28.
The Cougars continued to cruise the rest of the game for a decisive 78-38 non-conference win over the visiting Rams.
Noah Bobb led the way for the Cougars with 18 points and 10 rebounds in the victory.
“We needed both wins during the week, and we didn’t have any lapses in our game against Random Lake, which is huge for our confidence,” said Elliott.
Vs NFDL
On January 6, the Campbellsport boys’ basketball team beat North Fond du Lac 65-61 for their first Flyway Conference victory of the season, during Youth Night for the program.
Campbellsport (3-8, 1-4) jumped out to a 9-0 lead over NFDL (2-7, 0-5) thanks to four points from Noah Bobb and five points by Carter Gellings.
“Starting 9-0 was great for us with what we preached in our pregame and scouting, but we didn’t maintain our intensity throughout the game,” said Head Coach Ethan Elliott. “We had opportunities to separate, so we need to learn from that and limit momentum swings.”
Trevin Shea’s layup got the Cougars’ lead out to 15-6 before NFDL tied the game at 16. Shea scored back-to-back fast break layups and then drained a three to give Campbellsport a 23-19 lead.
Gellings scored a basket right before halftime to give the Cougars a 29-23 halftime lead over the visiting Orioles.
Campbellsport’s Shea continued his strong game by scoring eight early second-half points to put the Cougars’ lead at 41-33.
“Trevin was aggressive all game, and we got to see his potential,” said Elliott. “I was happy to see him break out of his offensive funk.”
The Cougars got baskets from Gellings and Shea to maintain their 53-45 lead over NFDL in the second half.
NFDL went on an 8-0 scoring stretch to tie the game at 53 before Gellings knocked a three to give the Cougars a 56-53 lead.
Pierce Kaehne converted an offensive rebound into a basket, giving Campbellsport a 58-55 lead, but the Orioles knotted up the game at 58 points apiece for both teams.
Kaehne scored a tough basket in the lane, which was followed by a Bobb steal. Bobb raced down the court to score for the Cougars, giving Campbellsport a 62-58 lead with less than a minute left in the game.
Campbellsport’s defense forced another NFDL turnover, and Kaehne continued his strong play during the final minutes of the game with another basket to give the Cougars a 64-58 lead.
Shea made a free throw to end the 7-0 scoring run for the Cougars before NFDL hit a late three at the buzzer to give Campbellsport the 65-61 conference win.
“I was proud of the way they handled the game when it got tight,” said Elliott. “Winning isn’t easy when you’re searching for an identity, but we found a way.”
Trevin Shea led the way with 21 points, with Carter Gellings and Noah Bobb adding 14 points apiece for the victory at home for Campbellsport.
“Although it wasn’t pretty, it felt good to win,” said Elliott. “I could sense in the locker room after the game that our guys weren’t satisfied with some things, and hopefully that hunger fuels us in upcoming games.”
Campbellsport boys’ basketball traveled to Ripon on January 13 after print time. The Cougars will travel to Omro on January 16 at 7:15 p.m.
