Campbellsport Boys Basketball Has Busy Week of Basketball

On January 7, Campbellsport boys basketball lost 56-40 to Winnebago Lutheran Academy (WLA) on the road.

Noah Bobb started the scoring for Campbellsport (3-9, 1-4) to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead over WLA (5-4, 3-2).

WLA scored six straight points before Trent Schladweiler made a three-pointer and Jace Goebel made a basket to put the score at 8-7 in favor of the Vikings.

Cullen Reis scored two points for Campbellsport to end a seven-point scoring run for WLA to make the score 15-9 with ten minutes on the first-half clock.

The Vikings went on an 8-0 scoring run before Schladweiler scored a basket with 5:50 left on the first-half clock to put the score at 23-11 with WLA in the lead.

The two teams traded baskets when Bobb converted an offensive rebound into two points and Braden Bothe made a corner three-pointer to make the halftime score 32-18 with the Vikings ahead.

WLA scored the first six points of the second half before the Cougars scored seven straight points, highlighted by a Schladweiler three-pointer at the top of the key for a 38-25 score with WLA ahead.

The Viking scored 12 consecutive points before the Cougars went on a 13-6 scoring stretch, featuring three-pointers by Bobb and Bothe, before WLA closed out their 56-40 conference win.

Trent Schladweiler’s 12 points and Braden Bothe’s 10 points led the Cougars in the conference matchup.

At Mayville

On January 10, Campbellsport boys basketball lost 56-53 to Mayville in their conference game.

Campbellsport (3-9, 1-4) held an early 9-4 lead over Mayville (3-8, 1-4) after a made basket from Trent Schladweiler.

The Cougars extended their lead to 14-6 with a made three-pointer in the corner from Schladweiler before Mayvllie responded with a 16-1 scoring stretch to take a 22-15 lead.

Campbellsport responded with a basket from Braden Bothe and two made baskets from Jace Goebel to make the score 26-22 in favor of the Cardinals at the halftime break.

Noah Bobb made a three-pointer for the Cougars to start the second half to put the score at 2625 with Mayville ahead.

The Cardinals scored four consecutive points before Emmett Gonnering scored on a post move and Goebel got a steal leading to a breakaway basket to make the score 30-29 with Mayville holding the one-point lead.

Gonnering scored another basket in the post to put the Cougars ahead at 33-32 before the Cardinals scored four points in a row. Campbellsport responded with four points of their own to keep their one-point lead at 37-36.

The Cougars got two points from Schladweiler to get their final lead of the game at 39-37 before Mayville went on an 11-4 scoring stretch to take a 48-43 lead.

Campbellsport got a big threepointer from Bothe to close the gap to 48-46 before the Cardinals scored four straight points to push their lead out to 52-46.

The Cougars wouldn’t go away in the game when Gonnering made another two points around the basket to tighten the game at 54-51 with less than two minutes left in the game.

Campbellsport Head Coach Ethan Elliott called a timeout with five seconds left with Mayville ahead 56-53 to draw up the final play for the Cougars.

Luke Pendowski got a final look at the hoop for the Cougars but his last-second, three-point shot bounced o the back of the rim to give Mayville the 56-53 conference win.

“The main dierence in the game was our foul shooting with us going 9-19 from the free-throw line,” said Elliott.

Emmett Gonnering scored 10 points for Campbellsport against their conference rival.

Vs KML

On January 13, Campbellsport boys basketball lost 71-48 to Kettle Moraine Lutheran (KML) in the game between the non-conference foes.

Campbellsport (3-9) was down 9-6 early to KML (6-6) before the Chargers went on a 28-10 scoring stretch to take a 38-16 halftime lead over the Cougars.

The Cougars continued to battle but couldn’t close the gap in the second half which resulted in KML claiming a 71-48 win.

Trent Schladweiler’s 15 points and Noah Bobb’s 11 points led the way for Campbellsport on the evening.

Campbellsport boys basketball hosts NFDL on January 16 at 7 p.m. and Lake Country Academy on January 18 at 5 p.m.
