On September 27, Campbellsport football lost 28-14 to St. Mary’s Springs in the Campbellsport News/Kewaskum Statesman ‘Game of the Week’ on parents’ night.
“Our parents are great supporters of our program with how much they do for these kids during each week of the season,” said Head Coach Todd Wondra. “Our staff is very appreciative of all of them.”
Springs (6-0, 4-0) got on the scoreboard first with a 51-yard rushing touchdown at the 9:33 mark in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead over Campbellsport (4-2, 2-2).
The next three possessions by the teams ended in punts before the Ledgers got a 44-yard passing play to set up a six-yard rushing touchdown to put Springs up 14-0 at the beginning of the second quarter.
The Cougars got a big interception from Luke Pendowski to stop the next Ledgers’ offensive drive to give Campbellsport the ball at the Springs’ 35-yard line.
“Luke’s interception was a big play for us with a change in our coverage, and he played it well with playing in the proper coverage after we showed the team their tendencies,” said Wondra.
Campbellsport called a halfback pass play from running back Riley Kohlmann, which resulted in a defensive pass interference call against the Ledgers.
“The halfback pass from Riley was something we hoped to catch them on knowing the amount of attention he draws each play,” said Wondra. “The play drew a flag because the defender was caught by surprise and was trailing the play.”
Kohlmann ran 16 yards up the middle of the Ledgers’ defense to set up a four-yard rushing touchdown from Trent Schladweiler to close the gap on the scoreboard to 14-7 in favor of Springs with 4:35 left in the first half.
Springs responded with an 80-yard drive capped off with a 10-yard rushing touchdown on a sweep to make the score 21-7 with the Ledgers in the lead right before halftime.
The first possessions for both teams in the second half resulted in no points for either team.
The Ledgers scored a three-yard rushing touchdown to push their lead to 28-7 at the 4:50 mark in the third quarter.

from page 1 Campbellsport finished off the game with a good drive for 56 yards, which was capped off by quarterback Braden Bothe’s two-yard sneak into the end zone to make the final score 28-14.
“I was glad that the boys kept fighting all night and you always hope that’s how they will respond after the opponent hits on a big play on their very first play from scrimmage,” said Wondra.
Campbellsport will travel to Laconia on October 4 at 7 p.m. during the upcoming week.
