On December 30, Campbellsport girls basketball lost 65-44 to Reedsville, on the road, to close out 2024.

Campbellsport (2-7) scored the first four points in the game with two baskets from Kiera Laverenz to give the Cougars a 4-0 lead over Reedsville (4-7).

The Panthers scored eight straight points before Mackenzie Helsell scored five straight points and an Ava Sabish basket gave Campbellsport an 11-8 lead with nine minutes on the first-half clock.

Reedsville went on a 12-0 scoring run before Sabish scored for the Cougars to make the score 20-13 with less than five minutes left in the half.

Laverenz made another basket for Campbellsport to keep the Cougars within striking distance of the Panthers at 23-16 before Reedsville scored seven straight points to push the lead back to 30-16.

Campbellsport received a spark when Sabish hit a three-pointer before the halftime break to put the score at 30-19 in favor of Reedsville.

The Cougars started off the second half on the right foot with Josie Twohig scoring a basket to close the gap further to 30-21 before the Panthers got out to a 51-27 lead over the Cougars.

The two teams traded points the rest of the way with Reedsville coming out with a 65-44 non-conference victory. Ava Sabish had 12 points to lead the Cougars with Mackenzie Helsell adding 11 points and Kiera Laverenz with 10 points.

Gabi Danza had a career high 13 rebounds to help Campbellsport control the rebounding battle over the Panthers.

Vs Laconia

On January 3, Campbellsport girls basketball lost 90-18 to Laconia in their conference matchup against the two-time defending state champion Spartans.

Laconia (9-1, 5-0) had a 58-12 halftime lead over host Campbellsport (2-8, 1-4).

Kiera Laverenz led the way for the Cougars with 10 rebounds in the conference matchup.

“The team showed poise, effort and positivity against a tough opponent at home,” said Head Coach Ray La Batte. “We will continue our growing process as a team and continue to improve as a team going forward.”
