Campbellsport Girls Basketball Drops First Two Conference Games

On December 5, Campbellsport girls' basketball lost 78-46 to NFDL at home on Parents Night in the Flyway Conference matchup.
Campbellsport (1-4, 0-2) tied the game at seven when Chloey Berres knocked down a three-pointer for the Cougars against NFDL (4-1, 2-0).
NFDL held a 15-7 lead when Sydney Brandt made two free throws, and Berres continued to show her shooting prowess with another three-pointer to make the score 15-12 in favor of the Orioles.
The Cougars couldn’t get into a groove on the court during the latter portion of the first half, with NFDL extending their lead to 15 points before Berres and Ellie Heider made baskets for Campbellsport to put the score at 29-18 with six minutes left in the first half.

The two teams traded points for the remainder of the first half when NFDL went into the halftime break with a 37-24 lead over the Cougars.
Mackenzie Helsell scored the first two points for Campbellsport to bring the Cougars within 11 points with a score of 37-26 before the Orioles controlled the rest of the second half in their 78-46 conference victory.
Campbellsport was led by Mackenzie Helsell with 13 points and Chloey Berres with 10 points in the matchup.
At WLA
On December 2, Campbellsport girls basketball lost 59-47 to Winnebago Lutheran Academy on the road in their conference opener.
Campbellsport (1-4, 0-2) had an early 5-3 lead over WLA (3-2, 1-1), thanks to baskets from Kiera Laverenz and Mackenzie Helsell.
WLA held a 23-13 lead when Laverenz used a nice up-and-under post finish for the Cougars, and Campbellsport proceeded to go on a 14-4 scoring run in the final five minutes of the first half, highlighted by three-pointers from Ava Sabish in the corner and Chloey Berres’ step back on the wing to tie the game at 27 at the halftime break.
Helsell scored a basket for the Cougars to put the score at 31-29 in favor of the Vikings early in the second half.
Brittany Reilly converted an offensive rebound for Campbellsport placing the score at 39-31 at the ten-minute mark in the second half with WLA ahead in the matchup.
Campbellsport got two three-pointers from Sydney Brandt to keep the Cougars within striking distance at 47-37 with five minutes left in the game.
The Cougars weren’t able to get any closer in the Flyway matchup with WLA getting the 59-47 win.
Ava Sabish led the Cougars with 11 points, and Brittany Reilly pulled down 18 rebounds for Campbellsport in the conference contest.
“We showed our team could compete in the conference with our overall team play, especially in the first half of the game,” said Head Coach Ray La Batte.
Campbellsport girls basketball hosted Sheboygan Christian on December 9, after print time. The Cougars traveled to Mayville on December 11 at 7 p.m.
