Campbellsport Girls Basketball Falls to Ozaukee

Posted

On November 25, Campbellsport girls' basketball lost 61-36 to Ozaukee on the road in their non-conference matchup.
Brittany Reilly got the scoring started for the Cougars with a three-pointer in the corner right in front of the Ozaukee (2-1) student section to give Campbellsport (1-2) an early 3-2 lead.
Campbellsport got an offensive putback from Kiera Laverenz to regain the lead at 5-4 before the Warriors scored seven straight points. Ava Sabish knocked down a three-pointer at the top of the key to put the Cougars within three points at 11-8.
Two straight buckets from Laverenz tied the game at 15, which was followed by a Mackenzie Helsell three-pointer to put Campbellsport ahead on the scoreboard with a score of 18-15.

The Cougars got two offensive rebounds converted into baskets from Laverenz and Brianna Bobb to take a 22-17 lead with less than six minutes left in the first half.
Campbellsport was able to maintain their lead at 24-21 after Reilly converted two free throws, but the Cougars couldn’t increase their first-half lead before the Warriors went on a 9-0 run to finish the first half to take a 30-24 lead into halftime.
Reilly got the scoring started for the Cougars in the second half with a strong finish off an offensive rebound to put the score at 30-26 in favor of Ozaukee.
Campbellsport continued to fight in the game and got closer on the scoreboard thanks to Helsell’s two-point basket and Reilly making two free throws to make the score 37-32 in the second half.
The five-point close game changed when the whistles in the game were flipped in favor of the hometown Warriors during a five-minute stretch in the second half, which led to Campbellsport falling 61-36 on the road.
The Cougars were led by Brittany Reilly with 11 points and 22 rebounds, which is the third most rebounds ever in a game in program history.
“The girls played hard and stayed together during the non-conference road game, which will help us as we go forward into conference,” said Head Coach Ray La Batte.
Campbellsport girls basketball traveled to WLA on December 2, after print time, and then hosts NFDL on December 5 at 7 p.m.
