On February 20, Campbellsport girls basketball lost 67-34 to Springs to finish their regular season.
Campbellsport (3-20, 1-13) got four early points from Mackenzie Helsell to put the score at 8-6 on the road against Springs (18-6, 11-3).
The Cougars got a strong post finish from Kiera Laverenz to make the score 20-8 in favor of the Ledgers.
Helsell finished off the scoring in the first half for the Cougars for a 32-10 halftime lead for Springs.
Campbellsport came out of the halftime break with renewed energy by getting baskets from Laverenz, Helsell, and Brittany Reilly to close the gap in the game to 38-20 early in the second half.
The Cougars stayed competing in the game, with Ava Sabish making a jumper and Laverenz finishing an old-fashioned play in the lane to make the score 50-27 with Springs in the lead.
Campbellsport’s Hadlee Rohlfs drained a three-pointer, and freshman Sydney Brandt scored her first career varsity points to finish off the scoring for the Cougars in the 67-34 Springs’ victory.
The 12th-seeded Cougars traveled to play fifth-seeded Lakeside Lutheran on February 25 at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Division 3 WIAA Girls Basketball Tournament.
