Campbellsport Girls Basketball Gets Much-Needed Home Win
On January 22, Campbellsport girls basketball lost 56-31 to Winnebago Lutheran Academy (WLA) on parent's night.
Junior Ellie Heider sang a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem prior to the opening tip.
The two teams were able to tip off their game on Wednesday night, after the contest had to be rescheduled from Tuesday due to freezing temperatures which closed area schools for the day.
Campbellsport (3-14, 1-8) scored six straight points featuring an offensive rebound putback by Gabi Danza to get the score to 9-7 in favor of WLA (6-8, 3-6).
Heider made a long two-point basket for the Cougars to put the score at 15-9, with the Vikings in the lead.
The Cougars got two points apiece from Brittany Reilly and Kiera Laverenz to put the halftime score at 27-13, with WLA holding the advantage in the game.
WLA scored the first 11 points of the second half before Campbellsport’s defense started to put defensive pressure on the Vikings helping the Cougars to go on a 9-2 scoring stretch, highlighted by four points from Reilly, to make the score 40-22 in favor of the visiting Vikings.
Campbellsport wasn’t able to get any closer in the second half with WLA closing the 56-31 conference victory over the Cougars.
Mackenzie Helsell led Campbellsport with 10 points and Kiera Laverenz contributed nine points and 10 rebounds in the contest.
At Ripon
On January 24, Campbellsport lost 47-39 to Ripon in a highly-competitive game in this non-conference matchup.

Ripon scored 10 straight points before a Brittany Reilly offensive rebound finish and Laverenz post finish to put the halftime score at 26-17.
The Tigers got the first seven points of the second half before Sabish and Helsell hit back-to-back threes for the Cougars to make the score 33-23 in favor of Ripon.
Campbellsport’s hot shooting continued in the second half with more three-pointers from Sabish, Helsell, and Ellie Heider to propel the Cougars to get within four points, 38-34, with five minutes left in the game.

Ripon made their free throws to close out their 47-39 hard-fought win over Campbellsport.
Ava Sabish’s 11 points led the Cougars with Kiera Laverenz scoring eight points and collecting 14 rebounds in the contest.
Vs Washington County Home School
On January 27, Campbellsport beat Washington County Home School (WCHS) 46-32 for a non-conference home win.

The game was tied at 22 early in the second half when Campbellsport overcame their slow start by fueling their offense with good team defense and strong rebounding to go on a 9-0 scoring run featuring four points from Brittany Reilly to give the Cougars a 31-22 lead at the ten minute mark of the second half.
The Cougars went on another scoring run of 13-2 highlighted by three-pointers by Ava Sabish and Mackenzie Helsell which extended Campbellsport’s lead to 44-26 with four minutes left in the game.
Campbellsport was able to close out the last four minutes of the game to secure the 46-32 win for their third win on their home court.
“It was good to get the win but there are still things we need to improve on as we move forward into the latter portion of our schedule,” said Head Coach Ray La Batte.
Kiera Laverenz’s 11 points and Mackenzie Helsell’s 10 points led the way for Campbellsport in their 14 point win.
