Campbellsport Girls Basketball Hits Midway Point of the Season

On January 7, Campbellsport girls basketball lost 70-19 to ninth-ranked Winneconne in Division 3 in their non-conference matchup.

Campbellsport (2-10) scored five straight points with a basket from Kiera Laverenz and threepoint basket from Josie Twohig to cut into the Winneconne (11-1) lead, 21-7.

The Cougars got a made three-pointer from Ellie Heider and another basket from Laverenz to put the score at 32-13 in favor of the Wolves.

Ava Sabish hit a three-pointer for Campbellsport to make the halftime score 53-16 with Winneconne ahead at the halftime buzzer.

Winneconne maintained their lead in the second half to close out their 70-19 victory on the road.

Kiera Laverenz and Ava Sabish led the Cougars with five points apiece on the evening.

At Lomira

On January 9, Campbellsport girls basketball lost 72-37 to Lomira, on the road, against the Flyway Conference rival.

Campbellsport (2-10, 1-5) had two strong post finishes from Kiera Laverenz to tie the score at four apiece against Lomira (7-6, 3-3).

Brittany Reilly drained a three-pointer from the top of the key for the Cougars to put the score at 11-9 with the Lions in the lead.

The young cougars team got a basket from Ava Sabish for a good start on the road with the score at 15-11 in favor of Lomira.

Then Campbellsport went on a drought until Sabish made a layup and converted the free throw to stop a 15 point, Lomira scoring stretch over the Cougars to change the score to 30-14.

Mackenzie Helsell made two baskets for Campbellsport to make the halftime score, with the Lions ahead, 39-19.

The second half featured three-point baskets from Sabish and Josie Twohig but Campbellsport couldn’t close the gap in the second half resulting in a 72-37 conference loss to the Lions.

The Cougars were led with eight points apiece from Kiera Laverenz, Ava Sabish, and Brittany Reilly.

Campbellsport girls basketball hosted Springs on alumni night on January 14 at 7 p.m. and travels to Mayville on January 17 for a 6:15 p.m. game.
