Campbellsport Girls Basketball One Bounce Away from Win Against NFDL

On February 4, Campbellsport girls basketball lost 30-53 to Oakfield in their non-conference matchup.
Campbellsport (3-17) got the score to 6-5 after Brittany Reilly converted a free throw after an offensive rebound conversion for the Cougars.
Oakfield (13-6) scored the next nine points of the game before Kiera Laverenz finished an offensive rebound into two points followed by four points from Mackenzie Helsell to put the score at 17-11, in favor of the Oaks.
The host Oaks scored the final six points of the half to make the halftime score 23-11 with Oakfield in the lead.

Ava Sabish’s three-pointer got the Cougars scoring going in the second half with the scoreboard showing a score of 32-14.
The Cougars got a two-point basket from Helsell to try to get back into the game in the second half with Oakfield leading 38-16 over Campbellsport.
The two teams traded baskets the rest of the game in the 53-30 non-conference win for Oakfield.
Campbellsport was led by Mackenzie Helsell’s eight points and Brittany Reilly’s 14 rebounds, who currently leads the Flyway Conference in rebounding with 9.4 per game.
Vs NFDL
On February 6, Campbellsport girls basketball lost 49-45 to NFDL in a thrilling, conference matchup.
Campbellsport (3-17, 1-10) held an 8-4 lead over NFDL (9-9, 4-6) after an Ava Sabish three-pointer and a Brittany Reilly finish in the post for the Cougars.
The Cougars took the lead back from the Orioles at 11-9 when Josie Twohig made a three-point shot for Campbellsport.
Mackenzie Helsell scored two points to give the Cougars a 13-11 lead after NFDL had tied the game at 11.
The young Cougars tied the game at 15 when Reilly converted an offensive rebound into two points for Campbellsport in the first half.
NFDL closed out the first half with a 21-16 halftime lead after getting a two-point basket right before the halftime buzzer.
Campbellsport’s Helsell scored the first five points of the second half, including a deep three-pointer to tie the game at 21.
The Cougars wouldn’t go away in the game after the Orioles took a six-point lead as Campbellsport responded with six straight points, featuring an offensive rebound putback from Brianna Bobb to even the score at 27.
Sabish scored on a fastbreak to put the score at 32-29, in favor of the visiting Orioles.
Campbellsport got seven points, including another three-pointer from Helsell, to make the game a one-possession game at 39-36, with NFDL ahead in the second half.
The Cougars seemed to tie the game on their next possession when Sabish made a three-pointer but it was ruled by referees the ball had hit the top of the backboard before going in.
NFDL hit a three-pointer after the three points were taken off from the Cougars on the scoreboard to flip the momentum in the game, which gave the Orioles a six-point lead.
Campbellsport battled to get closer in the game after two consecutive baskets by Twohig to bring the score to 47-42 with less than a minute left in the game.
Helsell finished off her career night of 20 points, with 18 of them coming in the second half, by swishing three free throws to put the final score at 49-45 in a back-and-forth game between the conference foes.
Mackenzie Helsell led the Cougars with 20 points and Jose Twohig led the team with 12 rebounds in the contest.
“We competed in the entire game against a good conference team, with our team getting closer by turning the corner as a program,” said Head Coach Ray LaBatte.
Campbellsport girls basketball hosted Lomira on Senior Night on February 11 and travels to Laconia on February 14 with game time scheduled for 7 p.m.
