On December 19, Campbellsport girls basketball lost 44-28 to St. Mary’s Springs Academy in their Flyway Conference matchup.
Springs (4-4, 2-2) was leading 10-6 with less than seven minutes in the first half over Campbellsport thanks to baskets from Mackenzie Helsell and Brittany Reilly for the Cougars.
The Cougars’ offense couldn’t get going in the first half, resulting in a 24-9 halftime lead for the Ledgers.
Campbellsport played good team defense with strong rebounding throughout the game, holding the Ledgers to 44 points in the contest.
The Ledgers secured a 44-28 road conference victory with Mackenzie Helsell leading the team with ten points, and Brittany Reilly had 16 rebounds for the Cougars.
“Our defense was outstanding tonight with our team giving terrific effort throughout the game, but the offense needs to match our defense,” said Head Coach Ray La Batte.
Vs Reedsville
On December 16, the Campbellsport girls’ basketball team lost 63-45 to Reedsville at home in their non-conference matchup.
Campbellsport (1-8) started the game off fast with a 10-3 lead thanks to Sydney Brandt scoring eight points, including a three-pointer for the Cougars against Reedsville (4-3).
Kiera Laverenz scored the next five points for the Cougars, which featured a three-pointer to give Campbellsport a 15-9 lead over the Panthers.
The Cougars were maintaining their first-half lead when Mackenzie Helsell drove to the basket to put the score at 17-13 before Reedsville took the lead at 21-17.
Campbellsport with four straight points from baskets from Brandt and Ava Sabish to tie the game at 21, but the Panthers scored the final three points of the half to get a 24-21 halftime lead.
Brittany Reilly converted an offensive rebound for the Cougars to start the second half to put the score at 24-23.
Reedsville got out to a 40-28 lead before back-to-back from Brandt and an offensive rebound putback from freshman guard Taylor Schladweiler for Campbellsport to claw back into the game at 44-36 with 7:30 left in the game.
The Cougars weren’t able to get any closer in the game, which resulted in a 63-45 conference loss with Sydney Brandt leading the way with 16 points and Brittany Reilly collecting 14 rebounds for Campbellsport in the matchup.
Campbellsport girls’ basketball played Living Word Lutheran on December 23 after print time.
