Campbellsport Girls Basketball Take Conference Loss to Omro

Posted

On January 31, Campbellsport girls basketball lost 75-42 to Omro on the road in their Flyway Conference matchup.
Omro (14-4, 7-3) held an early 8-2 lead over Campbellsport (3-15, 1-9) before the Cougars went on an impressive 8-0 scoring run, featuring a nice backdoor cut from Ava Sabish for a basket and a Mackenzie Helsell jumper, to give Campbellsport a 10-8 lead over the Foxes.
Campbellsport’s strong defense continued to pace the team by forcing turnovers from Omro, which helped the Cougars to keep their lead at 14-12 with nine minutes left in the first half after two made free throws each from Sabish and Helsell.
The Foxes scored nine consecutive points before Sabish hit a jumper for Campbellsport to put the score at 21-16, in favor of Omro.

The Cougars got another basket from Sabish to keep Campbellsport within striking distance with the score of 26-18 before Omro went on an 8-1 scoring stretch in the last three minutes of the first half to take a 34-19 lead at halftime.
Campbellsport’s Brittany Reilly scored in the post to start in the second half and Josie Twohig continued to play good defense with getting a steal to return the possession to her team.
The Cougars’ defense translated into the offense with an old fashion, three-point play for Sabish, Reilly finishing in the post, Helsell capping it all off with a basket to bring the Cougars within ten points, 38-28, with 13 minutes left on the game clock.
Campbellsport got a nice ball fake from the top of the key allowing Twohig to score two points which was followed by a Reilly offensive rebound conversion and Helsell with a spinning move into the lane for baskets to put the score at 52-34 with eight minutes left in the game.
The Foxes were efficient with their offense, finishing the conference matchup with a 75-42 conference victory.
“We played team basketball by being confident and staying together as a group,” said Head Coach Ray LaBatte “We didn’t beat ourselves in the game by making Omro to earn their conference victory.”
Ava Sabish with 13 points and Brittany Reilly with 12 points led Campbellsport in their road contest.
Campbellsport traveled to Oakfield on February 4 and will host NFDL on February 6 with tip off scheduled for 7 p.m.
