On April 15, Campbellsport softball lost 9-8 in a mini-marathon with nine innings of softball against Laconia on the road in the Flyway.
Campbellsport (2-6, 0-4) started off fast in the first inning with five runs scored against Laconia (7-4, 2-1) thanks to a two-run single from Olivia McCarty and RBI singles from Kylie Jandre and Mckenna Loehr to take a 5-0 lead over the Spartans.
The Spartans scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 5-2 in favor of the Cougars, where the score stayed unchanged until the top of the sixth inning.
The Cougars’ offense got going again in the sixth inning when Campbellsport loaded the bases to score three runs, featuring a Peyton Hall two-run RBI double scoring Mackenzie Helsell and Ava Sabish to put the Cougars ahead 8-2 going into the bottom of the sixth inning.
Laconia tied up the game at eight in the bottom of the sixth inning by scoring six runs after Campbellsport had gotten two outs on the Spartans, with the final two runs for Laconia coming on a two-run home run.
The two teams went into extra innings with the score at 8-8 after seven innings, with the game being a test of wills between the Cougars and Spartans in extras.
Campbellsport was able to get runners on first and third after singles by Megan McCarty and Hall with one out in the top of the ninth inning, but the Cougars weren’t able to get a run across the plate to take the lead over the Spartans.
Laconia was able to scratch across the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure the hard-fought 9-8 victory over the Cougars.
Campbellsport was led by Peyton Hall’s nine innings of pitching, and Hall with the hitting of Olivia McCarty combining for five runs batted in on the evening.
Vs Lomira
On April 17, Campbellsport softball lost 11-3 to Lomira during a home, Flyway matchup.
Lomira (5-2, 3-1) scored seven runs in the first four innings of the game to take a 7-0 lead over Campbellsport (2-6, 0-4).
The Cougars got on the board when Ayla Garvey and Mackenzie Helsell scored in the fifth inning to make the score 7-2 in favor of the Lions.
The two teams traded runs in the sixth inning before Lomira scored a run in the seventh inning to secure the 11-3 victory over Campbellsport.
Campbellsport softball hosted Omro on April 22 and travels to WLA on April 24, with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
