Campbellsport Softball Gets a Win During Full Week of Good Competition

Game Two vs Brillion
On April 12, Campbellsport lost 11-1 to Brillion in five innings during their final game at Mauston to conclude a busy week of softball.
Brillion jumped on Campbellsport (2-4) with five runs in the first inning to get a 5-0 lead over the Cougars.
Campbellsport got singles from Kaylie Jandre and Olivia McCarty which resulted in Jandre scoring a run for the Cougars in the second inning to make the score 5-1.

The Lions scored six more runs to go home with the 11-1 win over the Cougars.
Game One vs Medford
On April 12, Campbellsport softball beat Medford 5-0 in a non-conference matchup at the Woodside Sports Complex.
Campbellsport (2-4) executed a double steal by Josie Twohig stealing second base and Shea Willacker stealing home to take a 1-0 lead over Medford in the second inning.
The Cougars got a two-run RBI single by Emma Batzler to extend their lead to 3-0 in the third inning.
Mackenzie Helsell hit a single and was driven in by another Batzler single to help Campbellsport push their lead to 4-0 in the top of the fifth inning.
Campbellsport wasn’t done with the hitting when Emma Muraski hit a single for an RBI in the sixth inning to give the Cougars their winning margin at 5-0.
The Cougars were led by Peyton Hall’s seven innings of shutout softball from the pitching mound and Emma Batzler’s three RBIs to give Campbellsport the victory.
At Mauston
On April 11, Campbellsport softball lost their first game at Woodside Sports Complex in Mauston 19-2 to Escanaba (MI) 19-2 in five innings.
Escanaba took a 2-0 lead over Campbellsport (2-4) in the first inning but the Cougars responded with getting the bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning, which resulted in two runs by RBI singles by Megan McCarty and Olivia McCarty to tie the game at two.
The Cougars bats cooled after the first inning resulting in Escanaba winning the matchup by the score of 19-2.
Vs Springs
On April 10, Campbellsport softball lost 8-1 to Springs in their Flyway Conference matchup on their home diamond.
Campbellsport (0-2, 2-4) bats started off strong with Mackenzie Helsell getting a double then a single by Megan McCarty which allowed Kaylie Jandre to get an RBl single to take a 1-0 lead over Springs (2-0, 5-1).
The Cougars got the bases loaded after scoring their first run but couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity to get more runs in the first inning.
Springs responded with three runs in the top of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead over the Cougars.
Campbellsport’s pitcher Peyton Hall was supported by her team making good defensive plays in the field, highlighted by centerfielder Emma Muraski getting a double play after catching a ball in center and throwing out the Ledgers’ runner on the basepaths to keep the score at 3-1 after five innings.
The Ledgers scored a run in the sixth inning but the damage was limited by Muraski making a running and diving catch in center to limit Springs to only one run and keeping the score at 4-1.
Springs was able to extend their lead in the top of the seventh inning by scoring four runs to help them secure the 8-1 conference victory over Campbellsport.
At Mayville
On April 8, Campbellsport softball lost 6-5 to Mayville in their conference opener on the road.
Mayville (2-0, 5-1) scored six runs in the third inning to take a 6-0 lead over Campbellsport (0-2, 1-2).
Ayla Garvey started off the Cougars offense with a double and was driven in by McKenna Loehr’s RBI double to get Campbellsport on the board.
Campbellsport got an RBI single from Megan McCarty to make the score 6-2 in favor of the Cardinals after five innings.
The Cougars offense continued to get their bats going with Emma Batzler getting a single which was followed by Peyton Hall’s first career home run to tighten the game up at 6-4 after the top of the sixth inning.
Campbellsport’s Shea Willacker scored a run in the seventh inning to keep their comeback going but they couldn’t close the deal in a 6-5 loss where the Cougars outhit the Cardinals 12-6.
Peyton Hall led the offense with a two-run home run and three strong innings on the mound for Campbellsport in the contest.
Campbellsport traveled to Laconia on April 15 and hosts Lomira on April 17 at 5 p.m.
