On October 10, Campbellsport volleyball beat St. Mary’s Springs Academy 3-1 to remain undefeated in the Flyway Conference.
Campbellsport (13-12, 6-0) and Springs (10-13, 3-3) had a back-and-forth affair in the first set with the Cougars holding a 22-21 lead before the Ledgers responded with two points to take back the lead at 23-22.
The Cougars scored the two straight points to get to set point at 24-23, but Springs wouldn’t go away by scoring the next two points to take the lead 25-24 before Campbellsport scored the final three points to win the first set 27-25.
“The close first set started the night with great energy,” said Head Coach Jessica Jensen. “I’m so proud of the girls for coming back and dominating the final two sets of the match.”
Springs controlled the second set and won the set by the score of 25-15 to even the match with Campbellsport after two sets.
Campbellsport got out to a 15-9 lead in the third set, before the Ledgers called a timeout, which helped Springs to seize momentum of the set by getting the score to 23-19 in favor of the Cougars.
The Cougars were able to get the final two points to win the third set by a score of 25-21 to take a 2-1 set advantage in the key Flyway Conference matchup.
The fourth set started with Campbellsport having an 18-11 lead and looked to be in control of the set, before the Ledgers went on 4-1 run to cause a Cougars’ timeout with the 19-15 lead.
Campbellsport finished off the fourth set with an Ellie Smith ace off the net to win 25-18 and to win the match 3-1 over the Ledgers and to improve their conference record to 6-0 in the Flyway.
The Cougars were led by Emma Muraski’s 16 kills, Ellie Smith had 15 kills and 8 digs and Nataiie Sipple added 6 aces and 12 digs in the the conference victory.
“The last time we beat Springs was in 2017 and we are hoping to bring that energy and momentmum into the Conference Championhsip game on Thursday,” said Jensen
At Mayville
On October 12, Campbellsport volleyball competed in the Mayville Volleyball Invitational.
Campbellsport (13-12) lost 2-0 to No. 7 ranked in Division 4 Tri Country (22-3) and Campbellsport (13-12) beat Berlin (2-22) 2-0.
Campbellsport (13-12) lost 2-1 to No. 2 ranked in Division 5 Newman Catholic (24-12) and Campbellsport lost 2-0 to Marshall (18-10).
Campbellsport will host Laconia on October 17 at 7 p.m. for Senior Night with the matchup between the two undefeated teams playing for the Flyway Conference Championship.
