On August 30, Campbellsport volleyball traveled to Hartford High School for a busy day of volleyball at the Hartford Invitational.
The Cougars won three matches on the day with wins over Kenosha Bradford in three sets, Waukesha South in two sets, and Wauwatosa West in two sets to advance to the Gold Championship at the Invitational.
Campbellsport (3-3) couldn’t beat Hartford on the day, losing to the Orioles twice on the day, with the final match coming in the Gold Championship.
The Cougars finished a productive day of volleyball with a record of 3-2 to finish as the runner-up in the gold bracket at the Hartford Invite.
“I’m really proud of how the team played this weekend, with everything we’ve worked on the past week of practice showing up in this tournament; the girls gave it their all,” said Head Coach Alexandra Brenner. “Taking second at the Hartford Invitational is a great reflection of their effort and hard work.”
Vs Homestead
On August 26, Campbellsport volleyball lost its season opener 3-2 to Homestead at home.
Campbellsport (3-3) took an early 11-10 lead in the set after falling behind 8-3 to Homestead (1-0) and fell in the first set by the score of 25-19.
The Cougars responded in the second set by leading the majority of the set over Homestead to win the set 25-16.
Homestead took the third set with a score of 25-13 before Campbellsport showed their mettle as a team, winning the fourth set in a back-and-forth affair. The set was within two points until the Cougars pulled away for a 25-22 set win to force the fifth and deciding set of the match.
Campbellsport wasn’t able to get the win in the home opener by losing to Homestead 15-7 in the fifth set to lose the match 3-2.
“Our team showed resilience by taking Homestead to five sets. Pushing a strong Division One program that hard felt like a win for us,” said Head Coach Alexandra Brenner. “The girls played with intensity, stayed composed for long rallies, and matched Homestead point for point at several moments during the match.”
“This match set a great tone for our season, and the level of play in the gym last night gives us confidence moving forward by showing what this team is capable of,” said Brenner.
Campbellsport hosted Plymouth on September 2 and hosts NFDL on September 4, with game time at 7 p.m. The Cougars finish their week at New Berlin West for a volleyball invitational on September 6 at 8 a.m.
