On October 1, Campbellsport volleyball went on the road to beat Plymouth 3-0 in their non-conference match.
“This game was a highly anticipated game for us, as much of our varsity team plays club volleyball with the Plymouth team, plus a previous Campbellsport varsity coach coaches at Plymouth now,” said Head Coach Jessica Jensen. “Our team rose to the occasion playing with tenacity. With the win, the team moved to 6-0 in road games.”
Campbellsport (11-9) came out to win their first set with a score of 25-19 over Plymouth (4-14), and then proceeded to dominate the second set over the Panthers to win 25-13.
The Cougars finished off Plymouth in the third set 25-20 to sweep the match with a 3-0 victory.
Ellie Smith led the Cougars offense with 16 kills and Carleigh Ward had 14 assists in the three set match.
Emma Muraski had three aces and eight kills while Shea Willacker had eight kills and Kaylie Jandre added two blocks in the nonconference matchup. “Our team does a great job bringing their own energy and positivity to opposing team gyms,” said Jensen.
Vs Lomira
On October 3, Campbellsport volleyball beat Lomira 3-1 in their rivalry game.
Campbellsport (11-9, 5-0) got off to a fast start with a 20-14 lead in the first set before Lomira (4-15, 1-4) scored nine straight points to take a 23-20 lead over the Cougars.
The Cougars fought back to make the score 24-23 before the Lions finished the first set with a 25-23 victory.
Campbellsport came out to take a commanding 19-10 lead in the second set before the Lions started another rally to bring the score to 23-17 in favor of the Cougars.
After a Campbellsport timeout, the team got in the proper mindset as a group to score the final two points for the 25-17 victory in the second set to even the match 1-1.
The Cougars showed why they are competing for the Flyway Conference title by playing good, team volleyball for a 25-13 third set victory and then a 25-15 fourth set victory to win the match 3-1, which improved their conference record to 5-0.
Shea Willacker led the way with 14 kills while Emma Muraski added 11 kills and Ellie Smith finished with nice kills.
Natalie Sippel had six aces in the match for the Cougars plus Carleigh Ward paced the way with 20 assists and Muraski contributed 15 assists to the effort.
“It was a great night with high attendance and energy,” said Jensen. “We are so appreciative of all the support from our community.”
Campbellsport volleyball will travel to St. Mary’s Springs on October 10 at 7 p.m. and to the Mayville Invitational on October 12 at 9 a.m. during the upcoming week.
