On January 17, Emersen Wissink and Savannah each went 4-2 to finish in fifth place in Wausau West’s Warrior Women’s Classic.
“Emersen pinned a girl who is ranked 11th in the state in the second round,” said Head Coach Dan Heisdorf. “Both girls beat multiple wrestlers who had 20-plus wins.”
“They stayed mentally tough the entire day, and wrestled about as tough as they possibly could, and I was really proud of their effort,” said Heisdorf.
At Omro
On January 15, Campbellsport (4-1) boys’ wrestling lost 51-28 to Omro (5-0) in the battle of unbeatens at the top of the Flyway Conference on the road.
“Unfortunately for our team, injuries prevented us from fielding a full lineup, which ultimately proved to be the best difference,” said Head Coach Alex Costello.
The Cougars were led by Jacob Allickson, Gavin Pickering, and Porter Klotz, getting wins for Campbellsport in the Flyway contest.
“Jacob continued his strong senior season by earning a second-period pin to give us a first lead of the night at 12-10,” said Costello.
“Gavin got the Cougars back on track at the 144 weight class with a win over the defending conference champ and narrowed Omro’s lead to 21-16,” said Costello.
“Porter delivered one of the night’s most exciting when trailing for much of the match, but he rallied to energize the crowd by earning a dramatic third-period fall,” said Costello.
“Hudson followed Porter with his own strong performance to secure a second-period pin to cut the score to 39-28,” said Costello.
Campbellsport wrestling will host St. Lawrence and Waupun on January 22, starting at 6:30 p.m. Campbellsport girls’ wrestling will travel to Milwaukee Hamilton on January 23 at 3:30 p.m., and then the Cougars will travel to Sheboygan North on January 24 at 8 a.m.
