On December 11, Campbellsport girls’ basketball lost 64-39 to Mayville on the road in their Flyway Conference contest.
Campbellsport (1-6, 0-3) went on a 10-0 scoring run, highlighted by three three-point makes with two coming from Brittany Reilly and one from Sydney Brandt to make the score 10-4 in favor of the Cougars over Mayville.
Mayville took the lead back at 12-10 before the Cougars responded with another impressive 7-0 stretch featuring a nice layup from Ava Sabish and another three-pointer from Brandt to retake the lead for Campbellsport at 17-12.
The Cardinals scored the next nine points in the back-and-forth first half for a 21-17 lead when Ellie Heider drained a jumper, and Brandt scored on two consecutive layups to put the score at 27-23 in favor of the Cardinals at halftime.
Kiera Laverenz had a strong offensive putback for the Cougars to start the second half to make the score 29-25 before their offense went away for the rest of the game, resulting in a 64-39 conference loss.
Sophomore Sydney Brandt had a breakout game with 14 points, and Brittany Reilly had another outstanding rebounding night with 19 rebounds in the matchup for Campbellsport.
Reilly is averaging 16.3 rebounds per game for the Cougar,s which is currently the best in the state.
Vs Sheboygan Christian
On December 9, Campbellsport girls basketball lost 75-50 to Sheboygan Christian in their non-conference matchup on a snowy winter night.
Campbellsport (1-6) jumped out to a 7-4 lead over Sheboygan Christian (3-2) thanks to a three-pointer from Chloey Berres and a strong post finish from Kiera Laverenz.
The Cougars were leading 11-10 after a jumper from Berres before Sheboygan Christian took a 28-16 lead when Ava Sabish scored five straight points, including a three-pointer, to the score at 28-21 in favor of the Eagles.
Sheboygan Christian held a 34-23 halftime lead over the Cougars, and the Eagles increased their lead in the second half before Campbellsport got the offense going with Laverenz making two three-pointers for the Cougars to make the score 56-41 with Sheboygan Christian in the lead.
Campbellsport wasn’t able to get any closer in the second half and went home with a 75-50 home loss, with Kiera Laverenz leading the way with 17 points and Brittany Reilly having 13 points and 18 rebounds in the contest.
Campbellsport girls basketball hosted Reedsville on December 16 after print time, and the Cougars will host Springs on December 19 at 7 p.m.
