On September 25, Campbellsport football defeated NFDL 50-14 on the road during the Flyway Conference matchup.

Campbellsport (3-3, 3-1) started fast with a one-yard rushing touchdown from Jackson Straub at the seven-minute mark in the first quarter to take an 8-0 lead over NFDL (0-6, 0-4).
“I thought we came out and the defense set the tone early with a quick three-and-out and then a good punt return to set us up offensively,” said Campbellsport Head Coach Todd Wondra.”The offense then was able to get going and put us up early.”
The Cougars added a second touchdown when Carter Gelllings (80 rushing yards) scored on a four-yard rushing touchdown to increase their lead to 16-0 with 1:20 left in the first quarter.
Levi Bentz intercepted an Orioles pass to set up the Cougars in scoring position, and Sawyer Galligan scored a four-yard rushing touchdown to push their lead to 23-0 with 25 seconds left on the first-quarter clock.
NFDL got their biggest play of the game with a 46-yard touchdown pass at the 8:46 mark in the second quarter, putting the score at 23-7.
Campbellsport recovered the ensuing onside kick, giving the Cougars good field position at midfield.
Galligan finished the drive with a three-yard rushing touchdown with 8:17 left in the first half, making the score 30-7 in favor of the Cougars.
The Cougars’ defense stopped the Orioles’ offense on fourth down, giving the ball back to the Campbellsport offense at the NFDL 45-yard line.
“Our goal was to play good, disciplined defensive football and for the most part we did,” said Wondra.
Campbellsport got a big play from their passing game when Straub hit Bentz for a 45-yard passing touchdown to give the Cougars a 37-7 lead with 4:58 left in the second quarter.
The Cougars got a third rushing touchdown for Galligan (138 rushing yards) on a 12-yard run to build their lead to 43-7 at the 7:41 mark in the quarter.
Galligan continued his big day when he intercepted a pass and sprinted in front of the Cougars’ sideline for a 70-yard touchdown, putting the score at 50-7 with 8:56 left in regulation.
“Offensively, we pounded Carter early, and Sawyer had a good game on the ground with Jackson going 4 of 5 through the air and connected with Levi on a good ball for a touchdown,” said Wondra.
NFDL added a late rushing touchdown for a final score of 50-14 in Campbellsport’s third straight conference victory behind 289 rushing yards for the Cougars.
Campbellsport football will travel to Springs on October 2 at 7 p.m.
